I think that makes Jon Jon Keefe the last regular male cast member from the show? Turns 81 on 21st Jan.

A few of the regular actresses still around. Sue Upton (66), Jenny Lee-Wright (73), Louise English (59) and Lorraine Doyle (62).

Veronica Hurst (b. 1931) still alive on Wiki and IMDB, unless you know better.

Bizarrely hasn't appeared in anything since 1975. Did however featured in a 2019 documentary, Talking Pictures with Veronica Hurst, so most likely still with us. Added.

Had no idea Anthony Dawes is still alive. He also played the clergyman on the train in the extremely creepy Tales of the Unexpected episode The Landlady. He didn't look young then and that was more than 41 years ago.

Well, nobody picked him for this year.

Anthony Dawes reported dead by his local church: https://m.facebook.com/sloanechurch/posts/3630247620423162

In possibly everything except Doctor Who? I'll be cross-posting this to Grange Hill, for example.

IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0205928/

Oh, and in case you don't know the name, here's the face:

Anthony Dawes — RADA

RIP.

Watched The Calcium Kid (2004) earlier. There’s an old character in it called Leonard. Thought to myself “MUST be dead by now”, checked, nope... still with us and there’s loads online about him!

Arthur Nightingale turns 90 this year. TV credits include The Bill and The Crown. Still acting as recently as 2020 so maybe a few years left in him yet! Added him to the list.

More old school actors on Pointless- rather younger than above, mind you.

Philip Franks (64) off Darling Buds of May.

Philip Jackson (73) and Hugh Fraser (76) off lots but here for Poirot.

Family memorial here.

Includes a full DOB and DOD. Looks like he was only 74.

Edit: A search on the GRO from 1930 to 1950 only brings up one result:

Now I’m confused.

Did he have his missus believing he was younger?

Twitter reporting the death of British character actor Harry Fielder, whose numerous appearances were largely uncredited. They included 15 Doctor Who episodes from 1967 to 1982. Fielder was 80.

If memory serves, he is the one who finds Marty Hopkirk's body in Randall and Hopkirk [deceased]

Harry Fielder was 'The King of the Extras'. It would probably be easier to list what he didn't appear in throughout the 60s and 70s and beyond.

http://www.harryfielder.co.uk/

His coffin will be carried by non speaking extras, the music will be via the performing rights society and the vicar will only be allowed to say a few words but get paid more.

RIP legend.

I mean, directors would specifically ask if Fielder was available on filming days for their work, which tells you how widespread respect he had. Also a familiar online presence about 10-20 years ago - seemed a decent bloke.

I mean, directors would specifically ask if Fielder was available on filming days for their work, which tells you how widespread respect he had. Also a familiar online presence about 10-20 years ago - seemed a decent bloke.

A forum or two I frequented back then used to interact with him a fair bit.

Yes, he came across as a decent fella, for sure.

EVENING STANDARD THEATRE AWARD WINNERS

ACTORS

1980       Tom Courtenay

1983       Derek Jacobi

1984       Ian McKellen

1985       Anthony Sher

1987       Michael Gambon

1998       Kevin Spacey

1999       Stephen Dillane

2000       Simon Russell Beale

2001       Alex Jennings

2003.       Michael Sheen

The ten longest surviving since their win updated for the loss of Christopher Plummer (1961).

The year 2004 was won by Richard Griffith's and 2005 was SRB again so when the next one goes I will skip forward to 2006. Race between Tom Courtney and Michael Gambon IMO.

Just to put this into context for the actresses there are still five winners from the sixties and number 10 on the list is 1980.

Courtenay will go first I think. He was on BBC Two the other week reciting some Shakespeare from home and he looked very frail, hands seemed to be shaking.

Apologies if this has been posted before but there's a tweet from Richard Briers' daughter marking the anniversary of his death. She refers to Mum who has Alzheimer's. Mum, of course, is Ann Davies, who was an actress in her own right. As Lucy is also an actress, I would think it likely Davies would get some kind of qualifying obituary.

As I don't want to bore you with overly long CV lists, I'll note the two things which guarantee her a Guardian obit. Peter's Friends, the Fry and Laurie/Emma Thompson/Branagh film from the early 90s oft cited as highly influential among Guardian type writers. And... The Dalek Invasion of Earth. (Although there's a myth she was considered as a Dr Who companion, the role *was* but Pamela Franklin was set to play it. When that fell through, she dropped out, the role got scaled down, and Ann Davies signed on... would have been interesting to say least as Franklin was 13 at time Invasion was filmed!)
