This is an interesting point, I mean, there must be people out there that look a bit like Jimmy Savile and Rose West etc.

What a curse that would be!

We had a teacher who looked a lot like Rolf Harris, his nickname was Didge, after didgeridoo. I often wonder of he still does.

I think he would have shaved his beard off and binned his wobble board. :D

How strange, almost spooky - I sang Ai No Corrida two days ago on a karaoke app, unaware that he co-wrote it, that he'd died, or that he even existed in the first place (thought it was just Chaz's song).

And co-writing Boardwalk in his teens too! Though it kinda suggests he was born in 1950 on the net,  that's surely wrong and it was actually mid-1940s, unless he was 13 when penning it? Either way, impressive.

Not that it matters, but he (Kenny Young) was born 14-4-41, and died on his 79th birthday.

From what I've seen on t'internet, I understand he had some form of cancer. Still, 83 is a good age, outlived Del Shannon by thirty years.

I see from his Wiki he also played keyboards on Brian Hyland's April 1971 UK #42, Gypsy Woman.

No getting away from it, though, Runaway is probably one of the best enduring choons ever.

The verse's classic descending chord sequence was borrowed and slowed down by Lennon for I'll Be Back,.

Sad loss. Runaway captures lostness so brilliantly and Crook's keyboards are a big part of that.

Had a sudden urge to listen to some old '50s rock 'n' roll songs today and started wondering how many of the originals were left alive, given that so many, from Buddy Holly and Richie Valens, to Eddie Cochrane, to Ricky Nelson to Johnny Burnette to Frankie Lymon, met sticky ends one way or another.

Franny Beecher (member of Bill Haley's Comets) - born 1921

Scotty Moore (Elvis' guitarist) - born 1931

Gaynel Hodge (founding member of the Platters) - born 1937

Dick Dale - born 1937

Don and Phil Everley - born 1937 and 1939

Duane Eddy - born 1938

Connie Francis - born 1938

Dion - born 1939 (had heroin problems back in his day)

Jerry Naylor (bloke who replaced Buddy Holly as leader of the Crickets after the latter's demise) - born 1939

Glenn Hardin (pianist for Elvis, Ricky Nelson and Buddy Holly) - born 1939

Chubby Checker - born 1941

Fabian - born 1943

Bobby Vee - born 1943

Brenda Lee - born 1944

... so overall, most of these chaps are still relatively young, even though it seems like an eternity since they were ruling the airwaves.

Not sure if that Franny Beecher bloke is the last surviving Comet. If so, he would be an interesting one to have on next year's DeathList.

Report of the death of Gaynel Hodge back in June, posted here as co-writer of Earth Angel: https://www.bmi.com/news/entry/bmi-mourns-the-loss-of-gaynel-hodge

Well, co-writer with seven and eight others respectively. I like to think he came up with the horn riff for the latter, at least.

I wonder what they'll do if and when his brother Bob dies; carry on as ...The Gang or get a new Kool in to replace him?

Oh yes it's Hades Night...

Sad news, I always loved this song. Mr. Bojangles was recorded by so many artists, including Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Robbie Williams, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan and so on.

Rest in peace, icon of country music :(

Report of the death of Geoff Stephens who formed The New Vaudeville Band (one for @Ulitzer95), who wrote so many hits of the 1960s and 1970s it's painful:

I'm going to single out There's A Kind Of Hush, The Crying Game, Winchester Cathedral and You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me, but read his Wiki for more.

IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0827020/

Tim Rice seems to have reported this as long ago as Christmas Eve.

Thanks YW. I’ll update it later.

Here’s a FB post from yesterday which gives us a death date of Christmas Eve.
