I credit Tom Wilson for that, but Dolph certainly played a part as a recording engineer. The Norman Dolph acetate provides a good look into early VU though.

Paul Vance, a songwriter and horse owner who penned the song Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini, has died. He was 92. Vance's death was reported prematurely in 2006 and discussed in the Deathlist Forum at the time. Among the other songs he wrote or co-wrote was Playground in My Mind by Clint Holmes. His son, Philip, was the child vocalist on the song. Philip Vance died in 2009.

I had heard mention of his death this morning on 60s radio yet oddly couldn't find any related Twitter chatter. Though unfortunately they played Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini immediately after in tribute!

Dozier did scrape a November 1972 #29 in the UK with Why Can't We Be Lovers as a performer, but it's his songwriting I think will be forever beloved.

Yes, I'm well aware of his career as a 'pop star', with a jobbing sideline in co-writing about a thousand of the world's best-loved songs. Nothing against Dame Livvy or her fans, but his life's artistic output meant slightly more to me than ON-J's.

 

I always liked the way Odyssey did his Going Back to My Roots, so...
