Métis activist and retired senator Thelma Chalifoux has died.

Chalifoux's daughter, Debbie Coulter, says her mother passed away Friday evening at a care home in St. Albert, near Edmonton, and had been in declining health for some years. She was 88.

Chalifoux was appointed to the upper chamber in 1997 and served until she retired at age 75 in 2004.

Oh shit of course yeah. Mike Smith (guy who plays Bubbles) made the news somewhat recently (a few years ago?) about verbal/physical abuse allegations. Also he's a classic character in the show so say if he does come down with cancer or something, I won't be suprised to see a BBC obit or something.

Looks fucking terrible now, But honestly not /that/ much of a name. Keanu Reeves would be a suprise though. Don't really know how i'm supposed to put their importance to Canadian culture in words but for movie actors in general, oh yeah they'd be big.

Canadian singer and television host, Juliette, nicknamed "our pet" (as in Canada's pet) died overnight Thursday. She sang show tunes in the slot after Hockey Night in Canada. She was 91.

Murray Koffler, founder of Shoppers Drug Mart and co-founder of Four Seasons Hotels has died aged 93. Shoppers is a Canadian drug store that is very popular here in Canada. It was bought out by Loblaws Inc a few years ago.

The man who proudly led the Church Lads Brigade (CLB) band through parades in St. John's for decades has died at the age of 103.  William Tilley carried the parade baton from 1939 to 2002, joking that he was retiring as drum major "before I become an old man."  Tilley was given a 90-year service medal by the CLB in November 2016.

Former British Columbia premier Dave Barrett has died at the age of 87.

A statement from Premier John Horgan’s office says the former NDP premier died after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He died today in Victoria.
No DDP interest I fear

Well-known Canadian author and former politician James Laxer died on Feb. 23, his family confirmed on social media. He was 76.

He passed away of natural causes in Paris, his son Michael wrote on Facebook.

"This shocking and totally unexpected news has been devastating for our family and has not sunk in yet," the post said.

Laxer was one of the founders of the Waffle, a left-wing group of the federal NDP party in the late 1960s and early 70s.

Paul Faraci, who invented the Canadian pizza snack Pizza Pop (which are like Hot Pockets somewhat), has died aged 89. Paul died early this month in Vernon, British Colombia, but was born and raised in Winnipeg. The pizza snack is one of the best selling snacks in the country.
