Don McGowan, a Montreal media figure who served as the weatherman on CFCF's Pulse News from the early 1960s to the late 1990s, hosted his own talk show 'McGowan & Co.', the fix-it show 'Mr Chips', the game show 'That's My Line' and the travel series 'McGowan's World' and 'Travel Travel', has died. He was 85.

Because I can't decide between the threads for scientists, astronauts and Olympic competitors, I'll put this here. Ken Money, a scientist who specialised in the inner ear, was selected as an astronaut (though didn't go to space) and placed 5th in the 1956 Olympics in the men's high jump, reportedly dead aged 88:

Illya Woloshyn (Wiki), Canadian child actor known for playing Jay Ziegler in the 90 adventure series The Odyssey alongside Ryan Reynolds dead at 44

 

Retired from acting years ago and even though he played the lead role, he looks completely off radar from press!

So sad to report that Canadian actress Samantha Weinstein (Wikidead at 28 from cancer

 

She was known for her voice work in some animated TV series like Super Why, The ZhuZhus, Dino Ranch and Babar The King of Elephants

 

She appeared also in drama film The Stone Angel (2007) alongside Ellen Burstyn and Elliot (Ellen) Page.

Ian Hacking, a Canadian philosopher widely hailed as a giant of modern thought for game-changing contributions to the philosophies of science, probability and mathematics, as well as his widely circulated insights on issues like race and mental health, died on May 10 at a retirement home in Toronto. He was 87.

His daughter said the cause was heart failure.

Celebrated Quebec actor Michel Côté, who made his mark with roles in the films Cruising Bar and C.R.A.Z.Y., died on Monday. He was 72 years old.

His family announced his death this morning in a statement. The Alma, Que., native had retired from public life in April 2022 due to bone marrow disease.

(As also reported in the Deathlist Cup thread) Daniel N. Paul, a Mi'kmaw Elder and author, has died. He was 84. Paul had been diagnosed with incurable liver cancer circa December 2022 and given three-to-six months to live.

Pat Carney, who pioneered roles for women in Canadian politics and journalism, has died at the age of 88.

Her niece, Jill Carney, confirmed in a statement that the former MP and senator died last night.

Carney was the first female Conservative member of Parliament elected in B.C. and the first female Conservative appointed from the province to the Senate.

Karl Tremblay, the lead singer of the Quebec folk-rock band les Cowboys Fringants, has died. He was 47. Tremblay had announced in 2022 he'd been diagnosed with cancer. Weakened by the disease, Tremblay and the group pressed ahead with a final tour this summer.
