Bruce Corbitt, of Warbeast and Rigor Mortis, has esophageal cancer, stage 3 or possibly 2:

Curiously, I already had him on my longlist (#512) because of heart failure and money problems, and I suspected drug use, hmm...

'Retirement' hasn't been too good for many musicians either.  No way to reproduce the Adrenalin rush of performing....with nothing but time and maybe a bit of money... not a great combo.  and/or ill health (as here).
Anyway, a quality share GCReptile.

I believe Buzz Osborne counts as major, let alone major grunge band singer.

Yes, but his level of international fame is not as high

Chris Ross, live vocalist of Vital Remains between the years 1996 and 1997, was shot dead by his brother-in-law yesterday. Also dead is Dr. Ash, guitarist of Individual Suffering and Putrid Yell, who was killed in a traffic accident.

I found the first story but it doesn't mention Mr. Ross as a singer/musician at all.
Google locates nothing re: second story.
I don't doubt either, just looking for links.

As for the second story, here is an obit from one of his bands FB page. (English below)

I'll try to locate one for the first story.

This is the best I could come up with for now:

Gino Marino, a guitarist from Florida who played in a few 80's death metal bands (the latest of them is called After Death), has died aged 49. Apperantly had some trouble with the law in recent years, but I don't know if it was a contributing factor.

Canadian singer Kenny Shields of Streetheart dies

He was 69 (article says 70 for some reason)

He had been sick for a little while:
"Kenny, as some of you may know and many have speculated on, has a very sick heart. In lay terms, he has approximately 20 per cent efficiency on the left side of his heart, which has caused his right side to become damaged in an attempt to compensate,"  said Jeff Neill

Kenny Shields passed away peacefully this morning at a hospital in Winnipeg, his bandmate Jeff Neill has announced.

This is just a regional obit, here's a national obit (national as in a Canadian obit): http://globalnews.ca/news/3614655/kenny-shields-streetheart-passes-away/

Also, here's another one that shows what illness he was going through https://ca.news.yahoo.com/canadian-rock-legend-kenny-shields-141234356.html

Update on Vivian Campbell. Apparently, he's trying to use the same drug as Jimmy Carter did when he had his cancer...

The whole incident sounds horrible.  Amazing anyone survived, frankly.

I assume "tractor-trailer" means something different in the USA.

Dave Hlubek, guitarist and founding member of Molly Hatchet, has died aged 66. He was the final remaining original member still alive. Flirtin' With Disaster was the bands highest charting song at #42 in the US Billboard Hot 100, although 6 of their albums charted and 3 were certified platinum.

Damn....what a day :(

Rough year for Molly Hatchet, what with their bass player dying in April, and now this.
Not exactly Emerson Lake & Palmer 2016 rough, but a rough year.

Well that's shit. Walter Becker and Hlubek on the same day. Flirtin' With Disaster is still a banger. R.I.P

The one pick that wasn't unique for most unique picks 2017...
