Giuseppe Casari was missed out of the original list (Italy 1950, played in goal against Sweden in a 3-2 loss). He's just died, aged 91.

The reason he's not on the original list is he never played.

 

For the games vs Sweden it was Lucidio Sentimenti, who is still alive and aged 93. Against Paraguay it was the late Giuseppe Moro.

 

The Wikipedia page about him is a load of bollocks. The below links are just two sites that confirm Sentimenti - I couldn't find anything other than Wikipedia about Casari. Another reason why I don't trust Wikipedia with World Cup "research".

Trying to work out which of the 1950s survivors would get obits. Obviously all of the English players, and both Bahr and Borghi played in the USA's 1-0 win over England. Ghiggia would be the oldest surviving World Cup winner (correct?), so he should be OK. Bonpietri is a top 100 player of all time imho, and Amadei is one of the top scorers in Serie A history so they should both manage it no problem. Most of the rest could depend on whether Jonathan Wilson has the time to write about them that week.
