Obit guaranteed I'd have thought.

Germany trying to make a comeback after England took a commanding lead among the dead in the last 2 years...

Unsure if Tilkowski was picked for 2020, but here's the BBC Obit: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51004898

Not seen him yet but not all names have been processed yet.

And some surprising "they've never been picked before?" names: Cormac McCarthy for one.

EDIT - more in the know reply below.

Colombia

1              GK           Efraín Sánchez        27 February 1926 (aged 36)

Efrain Sanchez dead at 93. (Yes the links in Spanish, he was Colombian after all.)

Played in 62 as goalkeeper for Colombia in all 3 of their games, including the famous 4-4 with the USSR. Also had 3 short stints as manager of Colombia, of which the most successful by far was taking them to the final of the 1975 Copa America.

Although more accurately, its the thing Peter Sarstedt died of, which is a cross between ALS and Terry Jones's thing. Sounds equally nasty.

I wonder just how many European players, from the past, have gone the way of Astle and Peters etc.

Heading was always considered to be something that, if not uniquely British, was a speciality that we were pretty damn good at, maybe because we played the ball in the air too much while the continentals kept it on the ground and at feet.

Magdaleno Mercado, one of Don Nacho Trelles boys at the 1966 World Cup, has died at 75. Sixth team member to die, I reckon.

Jair Marinho dead at 83. Plus, studies are being conducted to demonstrate Mario Zagallo's immortality.

Latest 1950 totals are as follows by the way: Red means definitely alive, blue/black is "can't be sure". In the case of Swiss and Yugoslavia 1950 - I'm pretty certain they're all dead (Beerli's the only one I think might possibly be alive, but I doubt it)
