FIFA World Cup Players

RIP. I really thought Boniperti would be the last living player from WC50 to die. Now I hope it will be Carbajal, he is honestly the only legendary name from that competition still hanging with us.

RIP Paul Mariner, legendary player for Arsenal and England. Also, my grandfather supervised his birth, as his local GP in the Bolton area in the 1950s.

Updated lists. Numbers going down relatively rapidly from a few years ago. People highlighted in red are those I'm 99% certain are still alive.

Definitely all dead: Brazil, Uruguay, Spain, Sweden, England, USA

Believed all dead (but no information to confirm); Bolivia, Switzerland, Yugoslavia

Giovannini appears to have died off radar back in February 2005 in the States.

EUFootball is the source but FamilySearch and Ancestry tend to confirm it. Perfect matching record here. Died in New Fairfield, Connecticut aged 80.

Means that Boniperti was the last living Italian player from FIFA 1950 before his death last month.

Indeed. It was myself who discovered it and updated Wiki just days before Boniperti passed. If you look at the edit history and then the other things I be done you'll see they have a theme ...

Playing in the 1882 World Cup would make him an extremely rare beast

:lol::facepalm:

1982, of course. He wasn't, as far as one is aware, a time traveller.

Carlos Bilardo not told about Maradona's death.

Carlos Bilardo still doesn't know about Maradona's death - this article however, tells us that Bilardo is suffering from Hakim-Adams syndrome, i.e. pressure on the brain causing occasional, but reversible, dementia. While that doesn't sound terminal, he has consistenly been in poor health apparently:

Edited to add that he played in both of Mexico's matches at the tournament, a 2-0 defeat to Brazil and a 3-2 loss to France.
