Did you just edit wiki? As that has just been added to his page.

Why does that matter?

Loads of us on here are Wiki editors. It’s not exactly a secret or a big reveal.

No need to try and “out” people on here by their Wiki users. It’s not appropriate. Mind your own business.

You are getting ruder and ruder every day. Is everything ok?

Just an aside to confirm Jimmy Binning died in the 1990's - https://blantyreproject.com/2019/06/ian-jimmy-binning-footballer/ so Ian McMillan is the only surviving member of the squad, albeit he didn't travel.

*snip*

This is a weird case.

Every site online refers to him as "Ian "Jimmy" Binning" but his birth certificate says James Binning. Born 1922 in Blantyre.

The confusion over his birth year arises from the fact that there was a John Binning born in 1927 in Blantyre. Whoever that man was he died in Glasgow around 2004.

Scotland's People confirms the footballer died in Airdrie in 1991, aged 68.

There are now less than 20 remaining players from the 1954 World Cup.

A bit of research has found Marcel Mauron, thought to be the last Swiss survivor, died in 1998. (I've updated Wikipedia). Looks like Park Jae-Seung died in 2015, so he was the last Korean survivor.

Alfredo Torres of Mexico IS still going, but only just - at 90 years of age, he is 'delicate'.

But in good news - there's a recent interview with Manuel Munoz from the 1950 World Cup - where he confirms team-mate Andre Prieto is also still alive. Munoz is a fair shout of the 4 remaining to be the last standing.

Do you have a link? I can't see it.

It seems that people have to search for them on the Daily Mail website. It is not showing up via Google.

4 1950 confirmed. Possible there's another 2 around but I doubt it.

17 1954 - at least 11 are definitely alive. I have doubts about 2 Turks (Bolatli and Dincer) and one Uruguayan (Souto)

55 1958 - most of whom are definitely still alive. Only a handful of hmmms

106 1962 but some of those are questionable but I'm sure will be filtered out as the years progress.

I wonder how many will Q/O. All the English ones will think and I suspect most likely for the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish ones. From the rest of the world Pele and Seeler will but who else?

Just Fontaine is a certainty. As is Giovanni Trappatoni for his managerial exploits. Lorenzo Buffon (due to being related to Gianluigi Buffon), Gianni Rivera (both football and politics) and Karl-Heinz Schnellinger (played in the 1966 World Cup final) are all possibles.

I assume Mario Zagallo, Giovanni Trappatoni, Gianni Rivera, Just Fontaine, Francisco Gento and Luis Suarez will, all for different reasons. And maybe Kurt Hamrin will, too.

I can see Lorenzo Buffon getting one if he dies when his cousin Gianluigi is still a player.

It's a bit weird that some of the biggest names from World football from the late 50s/early 60s (Pele, Seeler, Fontaine, Charlton, Gento etc) are still going when a lot of the biggest names from the late 70s/80s (Cruyff, Rossi, Maradona etc) are no more.

If I can guess who are these players: I'll highlight those whom I'm not sure

1954
Mexico

Ranulfo Cortes
Sergio Bravo

1958
Czechoslovakia
Václav Hovorka

Paraguay
Salvador Villalba

Hungary
Máté Fenyvesi
Zoltán Friedmanszky
Mihály Vasas

Mexico

Enrique Sesma

Soviet Union
Nikita Simonyan

Your list intrigued me, so I've gone back and looked at the differences.

I hadn't seen Aputkhin's page on Wikipedia had been updated that he died in 2003, so thanks for that. I'll update my records and edit my post.

I was also wondering why you didn't include Bencsics of Hungary and then I found this... https://www.magyarfutball.hu/hu/szemelyek/adatlap/108/bencsics_jozsef which I will update on Wikipedia. Thanks for this!

Ranulfo Cortes died in 2000. Bravo I don't think I've found a date of death but I saw another report that referred to someone else or a few players as "the last surviving". Bravo wasn't on either list.

Hovorka died 14th October 1996 (on numerous websites including Czech Wiki - https://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A1clav_Hovorka)

I can't find my records of why I removed Sesma and Villalba currently but I think in the latter case, it is similiar to the Bolivian's of 1950. There's no evidence they're dead, but equally there's no evidence of them alive.

Partly due to a certain white powdery substance that was in abundance to the more modern players........
