FIFA World Cup Players

Recommended Posts

Lars Høgh, who played for Denmark in their final group game, a victory over West Germany and knockout round loss to Spain at the 1986 World Cup, has died aged 62.

A one-club man, the goalkeeper spent the entirety of his playing career at Odense Boldklub between 1977 and 2000.

In the shadow of the great Peter Schmeichel, he only made eight appearances for Denmark but was in their squads for the King Fahd Cup (A tournament retroactively referred to as an edition of the Confederations Cup) in 1995 and also at Euro 96.

And finally, he was voted as Danish goalkeeper of the year five times in 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1994.

Speaking of 1958, any updates on the current statuses of the surviving 1958 and 1962 finalists OoO?

Just seen it your list, a very interesting list you got there and I did some scouting to find more information some on these players and found some stuff that needs to be updated.

Omar Mendez (Uruguay 1954 and 1962) are the same person born on August 7, 1934.

Zoltan Friedmanzsky (Hungary 1958) did an interview in 2014 for a local news channel and this is the video, unfortunately everything is in Hungarian but it's proof that as of 2014 he is still alive. And his birthdate on October 22, 1934 according to his page on Hungary's Wikipedia though it's pretty unreliable.

Adolf Scherer (Czechoslovakia 1958) has done an interview on a Slovakian news site just a few days ago, unfortunately the article is paywalled but from whatever I could see he seems to be doing well and he lives in France (though I have no idea for how long he has been there).

Braulio Musso (Chile 1962) is mentioned on your list having a birthdate May 24, 1937 but his wikipedia page shows a birthdate of March 8, 1930 and it claims he played from Universidad de Chile from 1951 to 1968 but not just that, some more searching and I find that Braulio Musso has a Facebook Page which he is definitely involved in, and you will find all his posts are about his football days and though he has only shown photos dating back to 1955, he mentions in one post that he played for Universidad de Chile at the age of 21 and that makes the 1930 birth year make more sense because even if he debuted for his club in 1955 he would still be 17/18 with a 1937 birth year.

European Cup winner with Feyenoord, won the league with Celtic and famously ended the 10 in a row challenge from Rangers. A lot of the huge names in Scottish football from the 90s are snuffing out of late.

If he performs well and Denmark qualify for World Cup he could play in Qatar. Depends if he can play in the heat.

Denmark have already qualified. He only needs to get back to 80% of his old form to be in with a chance of being selected.

Norman was a frequent header of the ball, so I wonder if it's dementia linked, but not confirmed to the media.

I really can't understand why there is such desperation to announce deaths on social media, it's getting worse and worse. Surely just wait for the club to announce it officially via the family. In Norman's case, he is a legend for Spurs so it's not as if he'll die under the radar.

Depends what their mean as unwell. He could be unwell long term with dementia or unwell for any reason likely to soon go.

I imagine like all risky things even some very frequent headers will escape dementia just by chance.
