Seven days late on this, but welcome to the 100 club Mr Shinobu Hashimoto, who co-wrote "Seven Samurai" (and numerous other films) with Akira Kurosawa.

As a matter of interest does anyone know who the oldest ever 'famous' person is ? Swami must be pretty close to it by now ! I think Alexander Imich , who died at 111 and 4 months was the oldest ever famous man,(and also the oldest man on the planet at the time of his death ) , but I'm not sure about the oldest woman. It might be Ruby Muhammad who is reported to have been just short of 114 when she died, but that's unverified so she might have been a lot  younger.

Well, technically, Narcissus of Jerusalem is the oldest notable person outside of longevity.  But having lived in the 2nd century, I'm not sure if he counts as well in this. Let's say Leila Denmark is the oldest "modern" celebrity ever.

On another note, Japanese PM Yasuhiro Yakasone turns 100 today and is still looking fantastic! Made a powerful statement about Japan's Constitution this morning.

This video is from last year:

Them Japanese genetics man!

Another name worth mentioning: Hatsuno Goto (1 September 1903 - 15 May 2017), who became an oil painter later in life and held exhibitions of her works well into her hundreds. She also wrote her autobiography at 111. The top 2 pictures are from exhibitions when she was 107 and the bottom 2 are of her at 111. Even shortly before she died at 113, she still looked 92 tops.

Chicago judge George Leighton died of pneumonia at the age of 105 on Wednesday.  He was the first African American to sit on the Illinois Appellate Court.  Leighton also ruled from the county and federal benches. He retired from the federal branch in 1987 when he was 74.
