Valérie André (21 April 1922-) First female member of the French military to become a General Officer, one of the eight women to hold the Legion of Honour Grand Cross and one of the two living ones out of these eight with Simone Rozès (1920-)

I searched all the recipients of the Legion of Honour Grand Cross and there’s a lot who are in their 90’s now, several who will turn 100 in 2022-1923 including

- Marcel Boiteux (09/05/1922) : mathematician and economist (received it in 1992)

- Claude Alphandery (27/11/1922) : resistant and economist (received it in 2013)

- Jacqueline Fleury (12/12/1923) : resistant (received it in 2013)

- Anne Marie Krug-Basse (24/03/1923) resistant (received it in 1997)

The oldest of them all still alive are now Pierre Soulages (24/12/1919) and Léon Cligman (26/05/1920).

Maybe some good names in here for our french deadpoolers

Britain's oldest prisoner, Ralph Clarke is due to turn 106 in March. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison in December 2016 for historical child sex offences.

The last articles about him are from October 2019, but assuming he hasn't croaked it - I'm wondering, will the sick bastard hold on until 2023 for his parole?

As he's a DDP pick, didn't someone on here discover evidence Clarke died off radar? Sure I recall reading that at the start of the year but now can't find it?

This tweet from the CEO of the Howard League for Penal Reform implies that he died off the radar back in February..

Doesn't explicitly mention Clarke by name but assumed to be him given the mention of an 105-year-old prisoner dying.

Thanks. Yeah AFAIK there was only one prisoner that age in the UK. List of the lost.

Put her on the damn list for next year !

Why though? She seems to be very healthy for a centenarian.

And at just 50 names, every DL spot is precious.

Sticking a bunch of healthy nonagenerians (Brooks, Van Dyke, Lansbury, QEII) hasn't done DL much good this year and the same rule applies (albeit to a lesser extent) to centenarians. Kirk Douglas and Olivia dH were on the list for years before they finally kicked the bucket.

Nehemiah Persoff would be a better shout IMO. Had health issues in the past and hasn't made appearances/been pictured in a while now.

Sure, have two at once:

Trygve Brudevold (wiki), Norwegian Olympic bobsledder (1952, 1956), dead at 100.

Ruth Apilado (wiki), American newspaper editor and anti-racism activist, dead at 113.

Apilado ofc was the last living person of note (for reasons other than age) born in 1908.

Be interesting to see if Apilado gets a QO: part of me thinks she should via AP, but her death being reported in an announcements page and not a news story makes me wonder.

On a side note: if Eileen Ash makes it another two months, will she be the first British super-centenarian with claims to non-longevity fame? Jerzy Pajączkowski-Dydyński was born in modern-day Poland, George Frederick Ives was only famous for being the last surviving Boer War soldier and Katherine Plunket was born/died/lived entirely in modern-day Ireland. Am I missing someone?

Boris Pahor is 108 today! :birthday:

Reportedly frail and homebound, but still able to deambulate and sound of mind.

Who are the oldest notable people now?

?. Virginia McLaurin (born 1909 or 1916/1917) Community volunteer, famous for meeting the Obamas in 2016. Some birth records mention that she was born in 1916/1917.

1. Stanisław Kowalski (born 1910) Masters Athlete known for being an athlete at an old age and the reason why WMA created the M105 division.

2. Ruthie Thompson (born 1910) Animator, camera technician, artist known for working on Disney's early films, most notably Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Also, here's a (probably) new interview of Boris Pahor from yesterday. He's 108 today. Compared to the 107th birthday interview, he looks better but sounds worse.

I wonder what happened right after the filming of this video. Looked like he was going to sneeze, cough or something else.

James F. Leonard, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. (1977–1979), died in August aged 100.

Another one from my old politico watchlist. I believe George S. Vest is now the only U.S. ambassador who is also a centenarian.

George S. Vest (wiki), U.S. Ambassador to the E.U. (1981–1985) dead at 102.

Washington Post obit.

His successor to the post was J. William Middendorf (wiki), who was also Secretary of the Navy under Nixon and Ford. He turns 97 next month.
