I was convinced he would make 100.Ironically he was the last foreign secretary to resign till Boris yesterday. From an era of much more honorable and principled politicians though. Last member of the McMillan/Hume/Heath cabinet to go.R.I.P

Probably safe though because he's born in 1919 rather than 18

No 99 year old is ever "safe" just look at all the people who were born in 1919 that are dead.

How come his real name is spelled with one "r" and his title is spelled with two "r"s?

The family name was originally Smith, but his great-grandfather changed his name to Carrington. His two sons were baptised Carrington, but later became Caringtons, whilst the title remained Carrington, and I have no idea why.

His grandad couldn't spell imo.

Probably because he wanted to be an 'r' - sole rather than 'r' - multiple.  :duck:

Since Carrrington resigned because of the Falklands, now would be a good time for Hector Timerman to depart this world - and get an obit for the Falklands double death. His last tweet 10 days ago was a very final-sounding"Viva Peron!" and an acquaintance said about his health "It's a fight - and he's a fighter".

Or may be he was destined to be a pirate, instead of the last incumbent of the post.

Interesting trivia. Was the last minister of Churchill and the last cabinet minister of Heath.

Only got a brief news mention despite being Foreign and Defence Secretary and being known for resigning over the Falklands.

His daughter was once married to the Uncle of Camilla Parker Bowles.

I reckon the committee should fill his space next year with Douglas Hurd.

I think ordinarily his passing would have received much more coverage like Denis Healeys passing did. But as you know we are going through exceptionally eventful times with the political drama over brexit resignations and England doing so well in the world cup.
