Gone With The Wind

Recommended Posts

A newcomer requested a Gone With the Wind thread, so here it is. Apparently only four of the film's massive main cast are still around, these being DL favourite Olivia de Havilland, Alicia Rhett (born 1916), Mickey Kuhn (born 1932) and Mary Anderson (born 1920).

As someone who has never actually seen the film, I was surprised to learn just a moment ago that George "Superman" Reeves also had a role in it.

Apart from the main cast, there are a few living people left from the movie that had smaller roles. Shep Houghton (1914), Tommy Kelly (1925) and Patrick Curtis (1938, once married to Raquel Welch).

[...]

1 Hollywood film from this decade have 7 surviving actors/actresses including minor roles. Oldest = Gone With the Wind (1939).

Did Curtis play an infant?

regards,

Hein

I wonder if anyone had her on their DDP team.

Rhett was just waiting for a mention on the DL (forums) to die!

George Reeve?

Is this another insider joke?

I think Peter Falk played Scarlett's annoying kid brother. (deleted scenes.)

Then who is Christopher Reeve?

Edit:

Aha...

Guess I saw this coming....

Okay, I see your confusion now. Yes, there was a Reeves and a Reeve, and they were both Superman and both met tragic demises.

According to Wikipedia it's just Mickey Kuhn (b. 1932) and Olivia de Havilland who are the only surviving cast members now.

Not quite. Shep Houghton (away to turn 100, read on a silent movie forum somebody there contacted him recently), Ann Bupp (b 1922), Dirk Wayne Summers (b 1931) and Tommy Kelly (b 1925) are about. They all had minor roles though.

Oh, like the poor fucker who played "Maid #1" etc? I assume there must be a website which details these people or some other source you have for these people still being alive?

Tommy Kelly's son recently said that Tommy has health problems. Maybe not obit-worthy but still a potential 2015 pick.

Another actor, Lennie Bluett, played a yankee soldier at Shantytown. Not only that, he also played a townsperson in the same movie! Talk about multitalented to play two roles in one film. Much better than Clark Gable who only had one single role...He (Lennie, not Clark) had a stroke recently but seems to be recovering quite well, as seen in this video on his 95th birthday.

The other, not-Olivia De Havilland-being credited survivor of the main cast, Mickey Kuhn, is apparently still doing ok:

Interestingly, he played the son of Olivia de Havilland's role. He started "acting" at the age of 2 and quit Hollywood at the age of 25.

Olivia de Havilland is now the oldest ever main cast member of GWTW, having surpassed Alicia Rhett. Congratulations. :D

According to Wikipedia, Lennie Bluett died in Los Angeles on 1 January 2016, just 20 days away from his 97th birthday. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lennie_Bluett

Like what, a picture of his dead body inside a coffin, would that convince you?
