Wilfred Benitez too. In pictures, he looks utterly dreadful. Nothing has been heard of Mears since 2013, I'll have to check if he has died off radar.

I assume he is Victor R Mears, b. Jan 1943 in Brighton?

Didn't die between 2013 and Dec 2019 as per the GRO Index. Nothing in the wills from this year, or on Ancestry family trees so likely still breathing and fenced up inside somewhere hiding from COVID.

He's related to Cllr Mary Mears, once leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, so will get at least local coverage when he dies (even without being a crook character).

Close to 1 AM rant: Some genuinely awful picks through the years, as you can see. Why on earth did I choose Eminem's mum in 2014? Why did I think that a Swede who was neither terminally ill nor famous internationally would be a good idea? And picking Carl from Family Matters just cuz Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince died a year earlier was really a winning strategy, wasn't it? And some of the picks from 2018/2019 are so obscure that I'm not convinced that they are not just auto-generated names who don't actually exist in real life. Clemens who???:clivedunn::banghead:

Alright..... I'm still a little mystified at my 2019 performance. What did I do wrong? On the other hand, I've already lost 7 names of the 2020 picks, which shows that the B- and C-team were just slightly off with their timing, but still full of potential.

Those old teams, well, some names will stay on forever, but apart from those, they pass away at a rate of about 4 names per year.

With Rachel Zoll's death, Jean-Louis Trintignant becomes the last standing of my winning team from 2019. Given he's a nonagenarian with (an admittedly slow) cancer, surely the clean sweep happens within a year or two?

From my original "Six people, six months" (30th of August 2020) list over half of the six are still alive:

Kane Tanaka, 117

Fauja Singh, "109"

Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, 101

Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, 44

I don't know why I picked al-Qurashi, the current ISIS leader. He could hide for years.

-----

Team 2, February 2021:

Kane Tanaka, 118

Fauja Singh, "109"

Queen Sirikit, 88

Steve Gleason, 43

-----

Team 3, September 2021:

Kane Tanaka, 118

Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, 102

Akebono Taro, 52

It's very true what you're saying...

The reclusive Trintignant, who lives in a remote French farmhouse, is really tough...

He said: "I have been dead for 15 years", alluding to the violent death of her daughter by her boyfriend...

Trintignant also confessed that he had stopped fighting a prostate cancer very advanced and he said: "I let myself go. I am not going to do chemotherapy"... Trintignant's resistance is amazing.
