Businesspeople, Investors, CEO's

Recommended Posts

There's no recent death or news item to create this thread, but there are a couple of really old, really rich people worth watching:

Warren Buffett, 83, 4th richest person alive, has been in the news for choosing his successor at Berkshire Hathaway.
Charles and David Koch, 78 and 74, 6th richest people alive, CEOs of Koch Industries, have massively funded conservative politicians in favor of fossil fuels.
Bernie Ecclestone, 83, under corruption charges and threatened as boss of Formula 1 racing.
George Soros, 83, 26th richest person alive, massive supporter of The Democratic Party, doesn't look too healthy but there are no bad news so far.
Ingvar Kamprad, 88, Founder of IKEA, very secretive. DEAD
Sheldon Adelson, 80, Las Vegas casino magnate, another guy who spends millions of dollars on politicians to ensure that society will go on in a way he thinks is best even after his death
Karl Albrecht, 94, 23rd richest person alive, Germany's richest guy and co-founder of ALDI, his brother died last year. When will it be his turn? DEAD
Liliane Bettencourt, 91, 11th richest person alive and richest french person, owner of L'Oreal, was involved in a corruption scandal and legal trouble with her daughter. DEAD

Also worth watching: The Walton Family, owners of Wal-Mart and maybe even Bill Gates who is still only 58, but looks much older, in my opinion.

Indeed! Actually, when the thought of this thread first entered my mind I had him on my list, but yesterday I forgot, thanks!

Rupert Murdoch, 83, CEO of News Corp., has had a bit of a bad streak lately, both personal, with the divorce from his wife, and public, with the phone hacking scandal and failure of his attempt to take over...what's the name..BSKYB or something...

Dune Entertainment? Wow that's a weird name, I'm sure for anyone who has seen the film Dune, the word entertainment is the last thing they would ever say after it in a word-association exercise.....

I'm not going to lie... I really like that movie. It made me read all the books. I'm fully aware of its faults, but there is magic in there (probably all due to the book).

Richard Mellion Scaife, orchestrator of Hillary Clinton's 'vast right-wing conspiracy', media-mogul, and heir to a banking fortune, is dead at 82. I thought he was already dead...

The founder of Germany's most popular moving company, Klaus Zapf, has died at 62. He was a rather anti-capitalist capitalist. Although a millionaire, he still bought his groceries at discounters, he still collected deposit bottles and liked to sue big companies as a small stockholder:

Calogero Gambino, Deutsche Bank lawyer and involved in diverse manipulations of interest rates and currencies which are currently going through the news, has commited suicide in New York.

It's the second suicide of high-ranking Deutsche Bank employees this year. In January, bank executive William Broeksmit also committed suicide, also possibly related to the investigations.

Former Goldman Sachs CEO John Whitehead, dead at 92:

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/john-whitehead-former-leader-goldman-sachs-died-company-172357799--sector.html#MQwRMko

I remember that I actually looked them (Goldman Sachs CEOs) up for potential entries into my economics theme team. I wonder why I didn't pick him. He worked in the Reagan Administration and would have counted as an economist, much like Robert Rubin.

There has been so little information released about the health of Samsung chief Lee Kun-Hee, who has been in hospital for nearly a year, that the Korean press are speculating he may have died some time ago.

The founder of jazz label ESP-Disk, Bernard Stollman has died at 85 of colon cancer.

http://pitchfork.com/news/59352-esp-disk-founder-bernard-stollman-has-died/

The label released a couple of classic jazz records in the 60s and 70s, for example, by Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman and Sun Ra (though I personally love the Pharoah Sanders records the most).

And while I'm at it, Brian Couzens, the founder of classical music label Chandos has died at 82, but I have nothing to say about this:

Edouard died by drowning on a fishing trip; his great uncle died in a car accident in the 1930s.
