Ah, sad.

I saw that someone edited his Wiki page this morning with this information but I thought it was just vandalism because the IP address was in Florida!

Re that BBC obit, is it just me or did anyone else clock it and  briefly think - oh shit, Michael Stipe just died?

John Broome, who developed Alton Towers into a theme park, reportedly dead: https://imperialcorporatecapital.com/2023/08/04/john-l-broome/

He had also tried and spectacularly failed to develop a theme park at Battersea Power Station, and probably the costs of that project ultimately forced him to sell his interest in Alton Towers.

It would be great if Chrysler put out a model called the ‘Tragic’ so that we could say it was a Tragic accident.

Roberto Colaninno was born in Mantua 80 years ago, he died today and was chairman and managing director of Piaggio, owner of Aprilia. remembered in Italy for his leadership at Telecom and for the rebirth of Piaggio. Colaninno's professional career began at the auto parts manufacturer Fiamm, when he partnered with Carlo De Benedetti, a giant Italian businessman. Together they founded the finance company Sogefi, which acquired Fiamm from its British owner and turned it into one of Europe's most successful automotive parts suppliers.

Later, De Benedetti invited Colaninno to take over the leadership of his struggling company, Olivetti. Colaninno ditched the company's loss-making computer unit and focused on the telephony business, which he used as a vehicle to launch the takeover bid for Telecom Italia.

In 2002, Colaninno bought Immsi and the following year, he bought the Piaggio group. Over the years the company has grown and currently has several brands, such as Vespa and Aprilia. Already in 2008, he got involved with CAI (Compagnia Aerea Italiana), called to save Alitalia.
