Derby Dead Pool 2015

Recommended Posts

Dr Nakamats was one of my final dropped picks: from what I understand he's a bit "eccentric", and had previously claimed he was going to live to 144. The pessimist in me thought that perhaps he was overstating the severity of his cancer so he'd look more impressive if he made the year out. If he's still with us in 2016, I'm picking him next year.

Jock Scott is a great pick tbh, guaranteed to go and how the fuck does a Scottish punk poet get to knock up Anna Chancellor?

Bit gutted to miss out on a couple of uniques with Dr Nakamats and Jock Scot.

Basically a repeat of two years ago with Rubin Carter. Similar search terms or something.

Now the nervous wait from TMIB as to whether he got my team on time or not. Cos emails are fuckin slow sometimes.

Bet Jeremy Clarkson plows into the back of an 18-wheeler now that I demoted him from my DDP and just put him into the rest of my 50 name-list.

Will post team in my sig when TMIB posts them.

My personal team, The Vyrdolak

Pick 1: Clare Hollingworth, British journalist and first reporter to file a dispatch on the outbreak of World War II (JOKER)

Pick 2: Chuck Williams, American cookbook author and businessman, founder of Williams-Sonoma

Pick 3: Richard K. Guy, British mathematician

Pick 4: Suzy Delair, French actress and singer

Pick 5: Morton Sobell, American espionage figure (the Rosenberg's co-defendant)

Pick 6: T. Berry Brazelton, American paediatrician and columnist

Pick 7: John Zacherle (or Zacherley), American television horror-film host

Pick 8: Paul Rogers, oldest surviving member of Easy Company, 2nd Bn, 506th Parachute Inf Regt, 101st Airborne Div

Pick 9: Mary Midgley, British moral philosopher

Pick 10: Robert L. Hite, American Air Force pilot, member of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders

Pick 11: Josip Manolić, Croatian politician

Pick 12: Madeleine LeBeau, French actress (last surviving cast member of Casablanca -- Yvonne)

Pick 13: Sir David R. Cox, British statistician

Pick 14: Wendell H. Ford, American politician

Pick 15: Robert Clary, actor (Hogan's Heroes, another Lebeau -- a theme team in the making? :ghost3: )

Pick 16: Richard Anderson, actor

Pick 17: Lois Maxwell (I'm surprised she hadn't been picked for an 007 theme team before now)

Pick 18: Len Deighton (I am the proud owner of his The Action Cookbook)

Pick 19: Colin Jeavons, actor

Pick 20: Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern

In hindsight, picking a centennarian for Joker might not have been a wise move. Hopefully I'll get a Unique bonus for her. All of them were unpicked in last year's DDP, so I hope that a majority of them will get Ghostie icons this year. :ghost4:

Sgt. Robert Hite was the only surviving member of Easy Company too ill to attend a 70th reunion this year.

Dr. Cox developed the Proportional Hazards regression model bearing his name, so perhaps he should be a consultant for future DPs -- if he survives.

Colin Jeavons was Hizzoner in The Island (1980 version with Michael Caine) among other roles over the course of his career. I've been wanting to pick him for years but thought he might already have died unannounced. He apparently had a role back in 2007 though.

It's nice to be back (sniff, snerfle)!

Theme team: The Brotherhood of the Worm (clerical types, mostly)

Pick 1: Thomas Monson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Pick 2: Billy Graham

Pick 3: Pope Benedict XVI

Pick 4: Filaret (Mykhailo Denysenko), Ukrainian Orthodox Patriarch of Kiev (Schismatic)

Pick 5: Anastasios (Yannoulatos), Archbishop of Albania

Pick 6: Irinej, Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church

Pick 7: Desmond Tutu

Pick 8: Ilia II, Catholic Patriarch of Georgia

Pick 9: Louis Farrakhan

Pick 10: Dali Llama

Pick 11: Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East

Pick 12: Karim Agha Khan, Imam of Nizari Ismailism

Pick 13: Harald V of Norway

Pick 14: Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens

Pick 15: Sawa (Hrycuniak), Polish Orthodox Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland

Pick 16: Wiktor Wysoczański, Bishop of the Polish Catholic Church

Pick 17: Irenaios Skopelitis, former Patriarch of Jerusalem

Pick 18: Bartholomew I, Patriarch of Constantinople

Pick 19: Chrysostomos II, Archbishop of Cyprus

Pick 20: Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury

King Harald is apparently head of the national church. No truth to the rumor that their Communion meal is lutefisk on a cracker.

Welby is a comparative youngster but spent the holidays in hospital with pneumonia.

I should have spent more time coming up with a more amusing name.

I hope I made up for that with my other theme team, All's Well That Ends Well (cast members of the BBC Shakespeare series of the 1970s-80s).

Pick 1: Jeremy Kemp (JOKER)

Pick 2: Robert Hardy

Pick 3: Warren Mitchell

Pick 4: Geoffrey Palmer

Pick 5: Joss Ackland

Pick 6: John Nettleton

Pick 7: Andrew Sachs

Pick 8: Claire Bloom

Pick 9: Trevor Peacock

Pick 10: Virginia McKenna

Pick 11: Adrienne Corri

Pick 12: Phyllida Law

Pick 13: Prunella Scales

Pick 14: Anna Quayle

Pick 15: David Burke

Pick 16: Eileen Atkins

Pick 17: Julian Glover

Pick 18: David Prowse

Pick 19: Julian Curry

Pick 20: Kenneth Cranham

I omitted some of the higher-profile alumni, John Cleese (Petruchio), Patrick Stewart (Claudius), and Jonathan Pryce (Timon), mostly because they were still fairly active. Kenneth Cranham (b. 1944) on the other hand, always enviably trim and elegant, looked red-faced and bloated in a recent pic.

Crap! And I looked all these names up in the past week... I haven't done that since I picked Aaron Copeland in an alt.tasteless DP.

Do I start out with negative points now?

There always seem to be like a dozen centenarian theme teams so the odds are probably against you on getting a unique with her.

Now whoever picked him can breath a sigh of relief.I am sure they were worried if a former Governor of the Usa Media Capital would get a BBC Obit.

No point in typing them out again, so my teams for 2015 are in my signature below.

I don't feel as confident as last year, but who knows - might be a couple of unique picks in there... :smileyd:

I'm assuming my three unique picks for the year will be Kris Travis, Catherine Wybourne and Sadhana Shivdasani, unless anyone else can confirm picking them?
