Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted December 22, 2014 Since PD James has gone, who do you think will be the next of these remaining "James"'s's'ssssssss........, who are all fair candidates to drop? Clive James (75): (should really need no introduction for DL regulars)..... - but for the rest: Sydney-born writer and broadcaster who gained fame in the UK for his strikingly dry witticisms and acerbic observations of wacky foreign TV shows. He's been bleating on about being on the brink of death for over 2 years now. On the 2014 DL. Wheezes a lot. Clifton James (93): American character-actor, usually plays his own Southern-ness for laughs, maybe most famous to us Brits as the comically-redneck sheriff who teams up with Roger Moore in a couple of Bond movies in the 70s, most memorably "Live and Let Die". Generally plays roles like that in the stuff he's in. Was also in The Dukes of Hazzard but briefly. Quite chubby but I suppose there's been much fatter guys. James Randi (86): Another DL 2014 candidate - ancient magician and, also curiously, magician-debunker - his claim to fame is telling the public that magic tricks, and people who claim to be psychics, aren't the real deal apparently. Wow. I've got to call him up and ask him to confirm or deny my suspicions about professional wrestling. Still doing interviews, out and about and has a (much younger) male partner. Looks like Terry Pratchett's dad. For more info see his thread.

msc 18,480 Posted December 22, 2014 Clive James will outlive the rest. Randi to go first, and become a very grumpy ghost.
Sean 6,337 Posted December 23, 2014 Clifton James as Clive James is only terminal due to his emphysema which upon reflection doesn`t seem too severe yet.James Randi looks terrible I concede but Clifton James is ancient and fat so my bets on him.
Bibliogryphon 9,588 Posted December 23, 2014 I picked Clive James. You could have included James Best (b.1926) as another option.
I.R.Baboon 221 Posted December 24, 2014 Can I add James Last (his last name is a good source for puns as well (Last name, you get it? There I go already..))
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted December 24, 2014 Can I add James Last (his last name is a good source for puns as well (Last name, you get it? There I go already..)) Urgh, I thought he was dead. Dutchmen who know his noise often call him ''James Overlast'', after the Dutch word for nuisance. regards, Hein

I had a glance at his discography, I'm amazed at how much he's churned out. I'd only heard of him through Red Dwarf. And given he was listed as one of Rimmer's interests I got the idea. But since he's just too remote to me sorry that's why I didn't bother.

Dutchmen who know his noise often call him ''James Overlast'', after the Dutch word for nuisance. He's still alive and put out an album 3 years ago. I had a glance at his discography, I'm amazed at how much he's churned out. My uncle Henk owned more than a dozen of his records and wasn't afraid to use them. Mind that this was in the 70s. As a matter of fact, Last's output was popular enough in the Netherlands that he made an LP especially for the Dutch market. It contains Dutch folk tunes strangled potpourri style. Here's a sample. WARNING: Don't click without a bucket at hand. regards, Hein
Perfect Passing 277 Posted December 26, 2014 For crimes against all music, I really want to vote for James Last! But due to the Doc's limited field, my vote goes to James Randi.

Dr. Zorders 1,271 Posted February 12, 2015 For crimes against all music, I really want to vote for James Last! Good news for you and the others who mentioned him - James Last has announced his... last tour. I might add Last to the poll now... let me just cogitate for a couple minutes about how lazy I'm feeling.
