Not to try to argue about the drop 40 predictions but if Charlie Bird lands anywhere close to the drop 40 I will be absolutely stunned

Not offended at all.Didn`t want this thread to be me arguing with myself!

We have a preliminary D40. Seems it'll be a Drop 42 as three big-name celebs are at joint 40, though if a missing team is found down the sofa this could change. As it stands 33 of Sean's names are on it. 3 of the other 7 would've made it if they were on an extra 2-3 teams. The other 4 were on 15 teams tops.

I'd be very surprised if Gianluca Vialli wasn't in it too.

I love how you successfully told me so much and so little in one post. Not a dig by the way more an appreciation of how you can drop hints whilst leaving so much unkown.Very skilful.

Not a bad punt except had Willie Nelson on the second list out of 33 twice.

I think the Drop 40 this year will become even more famous names that are either long term I’ll or extremely old.  Not many under 85 names that feel like they might make their debuts. Only one i am entirely certain will be D40.

Quick guess

KEPT

1.       James Whale

2.       Jimmy Carter

3.       Jonnie Irwin

4.       Frank Field

5.       Linda Nolan

6.       Rob Burrow

7.       Shannen Doherty

8.       Dick Van Dyke

9.       Andy Taylor (fewer teams but still enough)

10.   Prunella Scales

11.   Nigel Starmer Smith

12.   Billy Connolly

13.   Vladimir Putin

14.   Roberta Flack

15.   Steve McMichael

16.   Yoko Ono

17.   Tim Bilton

18.   Mel Brooks

19.   David Attenborough

20.   Janey Godley

21.   Simon Cowell (SOS)

22.   Buzz Aldrin

23.   Willie Nelson

24.   Eva Marie Saint

25.   Joanne Woodward

26.   Glynis Johns

27.   Stanley Baxter (28 picks in 2023)

DROPPED – Kate Keltie (she's on about 30 DLer teams which is why she's Drop 40 in 2023, get rid of those...) , Rhod Gilbert (quite public news about his remission), Randy Jackson (only just snuck on as a one year punt pick imo)

1.       Clint Eastwood (has been on the verge since before I was a co-host, almost certain)

2.       Esther Rantzen (very famous and very sick)

3.       Patricia Routledge (on the verge for a while, now older)

4.       Theo Burrell (least convinced here but young and publicly ill = possible casual pick too)

5.       Derek Draper (recent news brings him back into fashion)

6.       Dave Myers (just had a Christmas special where his cancer is spoken about, almost a cert with more casual regulars)

7.       Toby Keith (made it half way just on having cancer alone last December)

8.       Rupert Murdoch (on the verge, very famous and now retired)

9.       Bill Cosby (on the verge for ages)

10.   Francoise Hardy (another nearly name for a while but also seems to have forum momentum too)

11.   Pope Francis (would be from nowhere but A list and repeated hospital stays, more likely than some of the others imo)

12.   Phil Collins (another close name in recent years that more casual players might pick)

13.   Donald Trump (yeah, you know he's coming back in an election year, he's never far off the Drop 40)

Seems pretty likely.Would be surprised though is Donald Trump was on instead of Patrick Murray. I also reckon Bruce Willis will sneak on as well as Julie Goodyear and Denis Law.

He is not under 85. I was referring to Esther Rantzen.

Duke of Kent would be a strong bet for Drop 40.

I also wouldn't completely rule out someone like Tom Stafford or Franz Beckenbauer making it either.
