University Presidents?

Recommended Posts

Dr. Catherine R. Gira, whose career in education took her from a high school English class in Catonsville to University of Baltimore provost and finally president of Frostburg State University, died March 26 at Friends House in Sandy Spring from complications of injuries she suffered in a December automobile accident.   The longtime Columbia resident was 86.

Fuxsake -- 6 months between posts?

This wee college is one somewhat close (read 100 miles) to my old home in Detroit.

Former Alma College president Dr. Alan J. Stone died this week at his home in Arizona.  Dr. Stone was the college's 11th president, serving from 1988 to 2000.

He died after a battle with pancreatic cancer after a brief period under hospice care in Arizona.  Stone oversaw a period of change and growth at Alma College that included the opening of the Heritage Center for Performing Arts in 1993.

May be excited to know the name of the team mascot:  The Alma Scots

The Financial Times decribed him at "Britains greatest living historian"

Not to be confused with the other Michael Howard who has something of the night about him.

It really is a poor state of affairs if Ann Widdicombe thinks you are sinister and creepy. It's a bit like Cyril Smith suggesting you could do with shedding a few pounds.

Gordon Van Wylen (wiki), President of Hope College in Holland, Michigan (1972–1987) dead from COVID-19 at 100.

I know his thermodynamics books. Probably not had long left anyway, but it is sad that COVID finally took him nonetheless.
