British news presenters to go on strike until their employers remove any risk of encountering Mick Lynch

https://newsthump.com/2022/06/22/british-news-presenters-to-go-on-strike-until-their-employers-remove-any-risk-of-encountering-mick-lynch/

Mick Lynch RMT interview

Senior broadcast figures on the nation’s airwaves are set to take industrial action, citing a huge increase in the risk of encountering a rogue trade union leader who makes them look like laughably predictable shit-stirring gobshites.

Kay Madeley, president of the Thoroughly Tamed Bobbleheads Union, said that the presence of a political figure who was completely unwilling to be deferential to their union’s members was a clear danger, and that as such, work would have to cease.

She went on, “It’s bad enough that he goes after politicians by calling them liars to their face when they lie or pointing out that Jonathan Gullis MP, affectionately known as The Braying Thug, is basically a message boy told to read out talking points by CCHQ.

“But he’s also been known to humiliate us when we’re trying to insult him into reacting badly by hiding behind some bullshit like an ‘anonymous tory source’ or ‘some people will say’. He’s completely feral!”

“Just yesterday, he sabotaged a completely normal interview where one of us asked him the same question six times in a transparent attempt to get him to break out into a snarl and threaten to kill the families of scabs.

“He just laughed and stayed calm throughout. How are we supposed to be the next Paxman if we can’t even get some pleb to lose it on national television?

“The government has got to get involved and remove him from the airwaves. Until then, the British public will sadly be deprived of glorified announcers asking easily anticipated questions of politicians who literally go to training camps to deal with them.”

Looks like  quite a few people agree with you including comedian  Paul Sinha . I hadn't realised Piers Morgan  made  a  fool of himself with Mick until  Isaw it on twitter.  Genuinely surprised that his show on TalkTV seems to be rating so badly.

Here's a compilation of Mick's best moments.  So far! :D

Kay Burley's interview at 4.27 had me in stitches.  And she had the nerve to tweet that HE got flustered!

Also enjoyed him repeatedly calling a junior minister a liar.  We need more of this.

Good find Toast.

I have a hugely increased respect for Mick now.

Always detested Kay Burley, so far up herself you couldn't get her head out of her arse with a chainsaw, that was gold.

Richard Madeley just looks a tit as well.

Icing on the cake to watch somebody use the word liar directly and repeatedly when politicians spend so much time finding ludicrous euphemisms for it.

Quality.

It just gets better and better ......

Following the run-in with Piers Morgan over his Facebook profile picture,  Mick Lynch changes it

Almost the best thing about this is Piers using the numbers to prove how popular he/the show is!

Bernie Steer, last surviving member of the Pentonville 5, reportedly dead: https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/b/last-surviving-member-pentonville-five-has-died

The imprisonment of the shop stewards in 1972 for unofficial strike and picketing led to the TUC calling a general strike.

I see the Wiki page is missing death info for Cornelius "Conny/Connie" Clancy.

Two people in the GRO Index: Cornelius Clancy (1915–1992), died in Harrow or Cornelius Clancy (1946–2016), died in Hackney. Which one do you think is him?

The ages of the 5 is a bit sketchy, but Vic Turner was born in 1927. Not that that necessarily helps as the age range of shop stewards varies greatly...

There's a photo here of the lads: https://tribunemag.co.uk/2022/07/pentonville-five-1972-dockers-strike-industrial-relations-act

Conny is in the centre, probably more 26 than 57 I'd say (everyone looked older in the 1970s ha!)

Must be a report on the release of them say around the 27th July 1972 which was the day after their release.

Tend to agree. Just odd that the Morning Star didn't do a write up on him, when they did for the other 4 (who died in 2012, 2020, 2021 and 2022)...

Guardian obit for Alan Jinkinson (wiki), aged 87, British trade union leader who was General Secretary of UNISON (1993–1996).

Also stood as the Labour Party candidate at the infamous Orpington by-election in 1962 (came third and lost his deposit).

Interesting to see Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie's father, Bob Gillespie, has died: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment/celebrity/dad-primal-scream-star-bobby-29700103

Bob Gillespie was known as an official for the SOGAT trade union who came into conflict with Robert Maxwell back in the day. But he's probably best known as the Labour Party candidate who lost Govan to the SNP's Jim Sillars in a by-election of 1988.

Or according to the Daily Record, as Bobby's father.

Tyrone O'Sullivan, former Branch Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers, reportedly dead:

A flying picket during the attempts of the mineworkers and others to bring down the Heath Government, as well as during the early 1980s against Thatcher's closure of the mines.

Led a buyout by the pit workers of a local mine in Aberdare during the early 1990s privatisation of British Coal. Unsurprisingly, a Corbyn supporter later.
