msc 18,483 Posted August 15, 2018 Well, I understand the concept of politics being populated by egotistical lying narcissists with good PR to their base because they tell it like it is or there's a conspiracy against them (delete as applicable) is utterly alien to US politics...
En Passant 3,743 Posted August 15, 2018 Short answer. Yes. It's politics isn't it? The canny out there will suspect that Boris doesn't give a flying fuck about burka's one way or the other (and he means niqab anyway). He is pandering to his perceived base at the cost of a very few votes he likely wouldn't have got in the first place. Sadly he is not nearly as daft as he acts, and it is an act.
Thatcher 2,418 Posted August 15, 2018 Boris Johnson as we know him is indeed an act. He ruffles up his own hair before he goes in front of TV cameras to give him that bumbling idiot 'charm'. Jeremy Corbyn is another one who is an act, although his mask occasionally slips in some interviews.
Prophet 251 Posted August 15, 2018 Boris Johnson is probably the most competent politician in the UK beside Nigel Farage. He was 100% right with that what he says about the burqa. The burqa is a symbol of the political Islam and have nothing to do in a secular state like the UK. I am half british myself (I am half northern irish) and I don't want that the whole UK will end like Birmingham (with over 20% muslims) or some parts of London. Boris Johnson is one of the few politicians who talk about these problems. He may be an arrogant idiot but he is still better than George Galloway, Angela Merkel or Juncker. My biggest problem with him is that he believes in the Rohingya-Lie and have absolutely no idea about Putin and Russia. But the UK have bigger problems: Nearly every month there is a terror attack in the UK and muslim pedophile rings are in London. THAT are the real problems,. That's why I vote for the AfD in Germany. Yes, probably 90% of them have no idea of nothing but the AfD is the only party that talks about the fact that refugees are 2,000 times more criminal than Germans. And that's a big problem.

If he has the slightest competence at all it's in getting voters to believe something different. In fairness as alluded to above by msc he's hardly alone in that. Farage is the same with but with less of the faux charm. Ditto Rees-Bogg, Ditto Gove. Cameron's another, he called the referendum in an attempt to get his own dissident back-benchers in line, it was nothing to do with the good of the country. From his perspective he made a fatal error. You may be on either side of the brexit argument, but don't deceive yourself it was ever called on behalf of the populace, it was political maneuvering. These guys cough, we catch a cold.
YoungWillz 21,071 Posted September 1, 2018 Been a while, so maybe I'm allowed. Much wringing of hands on the news today about our world class honours system. You know, the way that the UK confers knighthoods/damehoods, Lordships/Ladyships and a whole range of medals on folk who are in the main, cronies of political parties and the odd Interfering do-gooders who populate our communities. Well, turns out the taxman has been advising for years on who should get one. "Oh my god" I hear you cry, "how someone arranges their tax affairs shouldn't have any impact on whether they should get a medal from Her Maj!" Well, frankly, it doesn't. Plenty of Lords in the past and even now have their accounts offshore, celebs are always looking for loopholes to jump through, and it didn't stop Gary Barlow, Ken Dodd and the like all getting honours. Christ, even Mo Farah has moved to the US to avoid UK taxes. So it's a non-story. Unless it's your local lollipop lady or food bank trustee. Then it might matter. "Anyway" you rage, "it's not the dumb celebrity's fault, it's their pesky accountants who are to blame!" Nah, they're all in it together. If you hire a hitman, you are as much to blame for the murder of your intended victim. Anyone colluding in the avoidance of tax is indirectly responsible for some old dear waiting for twelve hours on a trolley in a hospital corridor. Anyhoo, pardon me for not having much sympathy here, even less that someone would voluntarily join a club of medal holders who are in the main, a bunch of people who have repatriated your hard earned cash into their rather less hard earned cash that they don't pay tax on. See you in 2019.
The Mad Hatter 1,092 Posted September 1, 2018 Wah wah wah you would do the exact same thing if you were taxed at their rate. When you tax the rich at a high rate stuff like this tends to happen but then again since you are a socialist and labour party supporter your relationship with reality is strained at best. Lowering taxes to the rich attracts more wealth to a country and actually creates jobs for the poor.
charon 4,943 Posted September 1, 2018 The example I heard was Stürmfürher PG Wodehouse. Fucked off to France for tax reasons in the 30's, not 'honoured' till very late in life. Who cares? They're all a bunch o' cunts.

YoungWillz 21,071 Posted September 1, 2018 Hatter knows he's blocked, right? Anyway, now I've seen his post. Not a Labour supporter - wrong. Not a Socialist - the political concept is spelt with a capital letter - you must try harder. Lower taxes are great. Doesn't affect those who aren't paying their taxes. You think cos taxes are lower people will arrange their affairs to pay something they aren't paying. Child, deluded foolish child.

Lord Fellatio Nelson 6,219 Posted September 1, 2018 The honours system is archaic wank and should be abolished. As for celebs and the rich being advised of loopholes to save themselves paying high rates of tax, so what? Everybody in a job would pay less tax if it were possible. Nowt like bitter and resentful working class folk.
charon 4,943 Posted September 1, 2018 Get rid of PAYE and I'd agree with you, but it won't happen. The 'working class' will always subsidise the rich and the poor. Stop all benefits tomorrow, and the rich wid shit themselves more than the poor.

If you have enough money you cheat, and they do. Paying accountants to put your Deliveroo or Yodel or such money in Antigua is self defeating, fees far exceed the cash of course. Thus PAYE on min wage or even average wage pays proportionately far more than those at the top, particularly those prepared to bend or even break the rules. Amazon, Starbucks and so on paying about 25p in the uk on earnings of millions means somebody else (who can't escape paying....) is picking up the tab. But hey, that's just my view. CaptainChorizo 1,986 Posted September 2, 2018 This might go better in the ideas and possibilities for 2019 thread, but I guess I should post it here. Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela going the way of Gathafi/Hussein seems a realistic possibility. Last week on twitter, NeoCon Senator Little Marco Rubio(in a tribute to John McCain) was already laying the groundwork to invade the country(since it poses no threat to the Usa)

Amazon, Starbucks and so on paying about 25p in the uk on earnings of millions means somebody else (who can't escape paying....) is picking up the tab. But hey, that's just my view. I tend to separate business taxation from personal taxation. Amazon, Costa Lotta and all of those other multinationals that fiddle like fuck to avoid paying the going rate need to be hung out to dry, that's a given. Personal taxation? I take more of a pragmatic approach. Take Mike Ashley, the general consensus is that he is a cunt, a billionaire cunt, mind you. He started out with his Dads market stall, IIRC, and turned it into a multi billion pound business that employs thousands directly and indirectly. He did not create his empire because he is a philanthropist, he created it because, I assume like most other business people, he did not want to work from anybody else and wanted to be rich. He took the business gambles, the risks of failure and every other obstacle and built his empire. Because he had the balls to create he is solely responsible for the opportunities for others to have jobs, mortgages, food on the table and the self esteem that comes from earning a wage. Lets just also say that not ALL of his staff are on zero contract hours either, and while it's not a type of contract I am happy with people ARE happy with such contracts and nobody forces anybody to go and work under one. Outlawing them will create job losses, I'm fucked if I should be picking up the tab for that. So, in effect, he alone is responsible for putting millions into the economy, every employee earning, paying NI and tax. On that basis, for me, if he wants to find ways around paying the highest rate of personal tax then good luck to him! His business, however, should pay what it should pay, that's fair. What I do not want is this blanket 'Tax the Rich' bollocks to create a state where people like Ashley fuck off to Monaco or somewhere and relocate his business elsewhere where the going rate is way less than the minimum wage is here. That is utterly fucking stupid. I know the young twat Hatter got ribbed for his speech a few posts back but, essentially, he is correct. We need Mike Ashley and his ilk more than he needs us. I'm not a great fan of Capitalism but, having looked around, it is probably as good as it gets. Well, for now, anyway.
