The illness is a society that tolerates the existence of extremist intolerance. The cure, ironically, for religious extremist intolerance is intolerance.

Changed our tune have we?

No, If I had my way all religious nutters would be gassed.

Best remove the fuckers from the gene pool.

Same should really apply to all political extremists who advocate removing people from gene pools/gassing people/killing people because they don't agree with their beliefs.

Ah the ever thorny, stay off these topics at dinner parties, subjects. Politics, sex, religion.

FWIW, believe what you like, but for gawds sakes allow everyone else to do the same, the trouble starts when you expect others to believe as you do, or worse, try to compel them to do so. Mind you with everyone gassing each other I 'believe' I shall go into the noxious substance manufacturing sector, bound to be a buck or two to be made.

That's what IG Farben did. They did make a Reichsmark or two.

So you're saying I should be gassed too?

Doesn't that assertion also make you an extremist who should also be gassed?

I advocate you being gassed because you are seemingly genocidal. The lesser of two evils etc..

Possible, but not very likely. Mr Cox became a senator two years after mr Swett returned to the US of A. During his term in Copenhagen he may well have met then Dutch Prime Minister Kok.

Several Dutch names sound rude in English ears. Examples are first names like Dick, Boebie (pronounced ''Booby'') and Fanny and family names like Cock, Ars and Pée.

As you must know, we have plenty of English Dicks - although this particular nickname for Richard has fallen out of fashion in favour of Rick, Rich et al.

The same fate has befallen Fanny as pet name for Frances. One does still occasionally come across an elderly Fanny B)

On the other hand, we have plenty of Cock families. Cock, Cocks, Cox. Pocock. Peacock ;) Hancock. Adcock. Lots more.

We also see Dicks as a family name. One of my favourite Sun headlines was a back-page report about the footballer Julian Dicks, who had suffered an injury: "Swollen Dicks Out"

Would love to meet Tiny Cox and see if he lives up to his name. For science of course.

Probably not. Presumably he has only one.

I suddenly realise a cousin of mine is called Fennie (short for Fennechiena).

Few English names are funny to Dutch ears. The name of web site flickr is a rude Dutch word for a male homosexual. Some English words invariably cause giggles in early English classes, like 'cut', 'pig' and 'raid'. I wasn't aware that Britain was so full of Cocks and Dicks.

I was going to post about the upcoming Polish presidential elections (which will be held on May 10th) on the UK Election thread, but I realized I'd get a lot of this: "Darn, the Poles are invading Britain and now they're invading our forums!" and more optimistically, this: "Can't you see this is a forum for the UK election?"

So, here's a forum for overall political discussions and stuff.

Anyways, about that Polish election, here are the main candidates and their parties (have fun trying to pronounce their names :P).

- Bronisław Komorowski, the current president, is fighting for a second term, and according to polls (not to be confused with Poles, who are voting for him) he will win in a LANDSLIDE. He's an independent, but everyone knows he's basically affiliated with the ruling Civic Platform/Platforma Obywatelska party. He and his party are moderates on everything.

- Andrzej Duda of the main opposition party Law and Justice/Prawo i Sprawiedliwość seems to be Bronek's main competitor. They are a very strict, Catholic, right-wing party... when it comes to social issues. But when it comes to economy, they're very socialist. Ironically, they hate communism and want to "cleanse Poland of all the communist influence". We can start by sending most of their politicians on a plane to Smoleńsk again! :D

-Janusz Korwin-Mikke, AKA Ronald Reagan's son-who-went-in-his-fathers'-steps, AKA Margaret Thatcher's soulmate, AKA the dumbarse who keeps embarrasing Poland in front of the European parliament. He's right-wing on everything, except one thing - he wants legal marijuana. Which is why he is so popular with Polish teenagers, who are, in general, very nationalist and homophobic (but they loves the weed). He recently started a new party, KORWiN, which is an acronym for... ah, whatever. Rumour has it he was kicked out of his own party for having sex with a secretary and now he's a daddy at 70-something!

-Janusz Palikot, of the Your Movement/Twój Ruch party (Fun Fact: I support him and his party). It's left-wing on social issues, but moderate-to-centre-left on the economy.

-Magdalena Ogórek, of the Democratic Left Alliance/Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej, which is left-wing on social issues and especially the economy. Most importantly, she's HOT!

and those are the most important people.

How is the voting system there? Is it that the victor takes the seat if they get most votes or is it a proportional system with votes transferred up from losers until someone has 50% or what?

Also, if you have hot politicians, does everyone stand round them on cold days? ^_^

This didn't quite feel appropriate in the election thread:

Anyone else sick of fuckers screaming how pointless the election as it doesn't change anything before declaring they won't vote. These are people in the main who are reliant on the government to look after them in some way, to set their pension pot, to set the minimum wage, to set the rate of tax, to design the benefits system, to set the rate of vat, to provide them with an effective health system, to get them out their house as it burns to the ground, to repair the road they use to go on holiday, to set the environmentally levy they pay on that flight, to set the rate of beer duty. Okay so the system isn't perfect and is currently extremely bias, but part of the reason for the inbuilt bias is this level of fucking apathy which by not voting people are being complicit in. Not mention the fact voting does change some things, otherwise nobody would care which government is in yet these vary same people are happy to complain the fing tories have done something or labour ruined the economy through uncontrolled immigration. This issue goes beyond the election, it's one where people are happy to moan incessantly when politicians do something wrong but still sit on their arse when it comes to the once every five years or 1 in 13 times a life chance to have some small say in the government we might get or to register the government you'd prefer. Compulsory voting needs instituted, even if it leads to a mass of spoilt ballots then that is a fair way of registering a political opinion. What scares me more is I predominantly here this opinion from young people; i.e those who are most likely to suffer the long term effects of the next government or current governments policies.

In the first round, if nobody gets 50%, there is a second round between the two people with the most votes, so logically, somebody has to get over 50%.

Depends whether you count spoilt ballots in the percentage, in that case it'd be very possible to win with less.

Bring back the poll tax. If you don't vote then you have to pay an extra £25,000 in tax. Those not voting or paying this tax, will be shot.

Only exceptions being such as those who are detained in a mental hospital or those in a coma.
