drol, my thoughts are with you and yours at this time. Sincerest condolences.

Maybe somewhere, somehow, your dad, Biblio's dad and my dad are looking down on us, sayng "So that's why they were on their computer!" Quite the time for the three of us.

I think my boss is getting suspicious. I am part of a team of six and both the two senior members  of the team have lost their Fathers with a two week period. Strange how these clusters come together.

But I do appreciate  all the support from my fellow Death Listers. I think this thread should be linked from the ranting visitors thread.

Sorry to hear that, look after yourself and take it as easy as you can, always difficult when it’s someone so close.

My sons wife's dad died last week (funerals on Friday). Nice enough guy, only spoke to him a couple of times. Once at my sons wedding and again at my grandsons 1st birthday party.

Given that I hardly knew the guy, should I attend the funeral?

I'd say, only if your son wants you to.

Yes, you should go if you can and if you are on speaking-terms with your son and his family. You will be there to support your daughter-in-law. Just by being there is usually enough. Play it by ear. No expections. Just be there.

Last night my Dad died. He had been poorly for a few weeks. He was 90 but despite being blind for the last five years he was not unhealthy. We celebrated his 90th birthday back in February and then he was still able to participate. Things had not been easy for him considering he was a widower aged 50 with four children aged 19 to 9. He eventually started another relationship but she succumbed to Alzheimer's about 5 years ago.

So sorry for your loss, Bibliogryphon! I can't imagine how the loss of a father would feel!

I have so many friends who are almost the same age as me who passed away this month. Most of them suffered from heart ailments.

Terrible news. My mother in law died yesterday aged 78, suddenly. She did not suffer from any known illness. She was going upstairs, we heard a thud and she was on the landing in the middle of the stairs. She lost blood from mouth, nose and ears. Every resuscitation attempt failed and she was pronounced dead at 3:00 p.m. local time. We will enormously miss her, as she cared about everything in the house. Really one of the worst, if not the worst, moments in my life.
