Frequenters of Detroit knew they always traveled as a pack -- the tall, rangy homeless guy known as Jesse and his black-and-white dog Baby Girl.

Now, both are gone.

Jesse was a seemingly happy man who trained Baby Girl to do tricks for an appreciative audience. He was described by the Detroit News this way: "Throughout the year, the relentlessly friendly owner charmed audiences as his canine companion rolled over, rode a skateboard in sunglasses or try to bark 'I love you.'

What exactly happened to Jesse and Baby Girl -- and why -- are yet unknown. Concerned residents who noticed him missing reached out to police only to learn Jesse had been shot to death at his usual haunt Dec. 10. It's believed Baby Girl was also injured in the attack, and died. The homeless man was both beaten and shot, police said.

Carlester Smith, known to a generation of Annapolis (MD) residents as “The Walking Man” from years of waving at passersby and flashing a bright smile as he picked up trash on daily speedwalks, died Monday at age 63.

For years, Smith, who went by many nicknames, was a staple along West Street. With trash bags tucked into his pants, he cleaned parking lots and washed windows, earning himself some money.

NO NOT TWO-BUCK CHUCK! :champagne:

A homeless man who was well-known in the region has died.

Sixty-nine-year-old Anatole Rybas’ family said he froze to death on the streets on Windsor earlier in 2022. Before he moved there, he spend decades in Uptown Waterloo.

Over the years, members in the community referred to him as the “two-dollar guy,” as the unique signs he would carry often read that he “only needed $2.”

Residents of Vancouver’s West End are mourning the death of a local homeless man known and loved by many in the community.

On Saturday, a steady stream of people arrived to add flowers, notes and other mementos to a growing memorial at the intersection of Davie and Bute streets for the man known simply as Boomer.

You complain about needless posts and/or threads being made/bumped. Then post something like this.

Most of the deaths SC covers are pointless/random/non-notable/incredibly boring.

Earlier it was Kobe Bryant’s widow’s dog.

He power drilled hundreds of items from Goodwill onto his car and became a fixture on the streets of Philadelphia.

Although he tried to play it cool, Gilbert Hilton loved the attention he received whenever he’d drive around Philly in his “Badillac,” a 2004 Cadillac SRX he decorated with hundreds of household items, from candelabras to curtain rods.

His wife, however, was not a fan.

“Oh, I hated that car,” Evonne Hilton said. “When people would be taking pictures, I’d be putting my head down.”

On Sunday, Mr. Hilton, a true Philadelphia character who added to the character of this city, died in his sleep at his North Philly home. He was 77.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but Man of the Hole has died. He was an indigenous man living alone in the Amazon rainforest, his whole tribe was likely killed decades ago. He had his own territory "granted" and protected by FUNAI (Brazilian governmental protection agency for Amerindian interests and their culture) and in 2009 survived an attack by gunmen.

Man of the Hole was found dead by FUNAI in his home, "lying down in the hammock, and ornamented [with macaw feathers] as if waiting for death"

Tweet below reporting the death of Mary Moriarty, aka the "Queen of Leith". Somewhat of an eccentric, she always seemed to pop up in the Scottish media from time to time. She was either 82 or 83.

Personally I think he should be allowed. Quite a fascinating figure from the few things I read about him
