Presenters

Recommended Posts

Mods, feel free to smack my arse if there is already a thread on the subject.

Presenters. Whatever happened to Michael Aspel?

What about Peter Marshall, presenter of Miss World and continuity announcer for ( IIRC) Thames Television in the 1970s?

What happened the the old fashioned presenter, eh?

Think Aspel was said to be suffering from prostate cancer.

Edit...

A 2004 article in The Independent reported that Aspel had a dormant case of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

As a supporter of the charity Cancer Research UK he was made a Freeman of the Borough of Elmbridge, Surrey in April 2008.

Add to that Frank Bough, John Noakes and William Woolard

Brian Cant could also go on that list.

If we want to keep a running list to add as we go along and then although I feel he's still got quite a few more years left in him, Johnny Ball can go on there too.

Re Peter Perves above, it's Purvis, right? Or was that a statement of fact?

The Russian military television offers Jeremy Clarkson a job in Russia. A Clarkson spokesman said he's considering it:

He had better be careful should he speak out about Putin.

If you want some ones who might go before all the above

  • Peter Dimmock
  • Michael Barrett
  • Brian Trueman

Although probably not Brian Trueman.

Whilst ruminating on this thread and possible contenders, I chanced to rediscover the name Bob Wellings, formerly of That's Life. No idea how old he is (Google isn't my friend) but he must be getting on.

Some names on here Ive not heard in eons.

That's the strange thing really, some of these people were household names in the truest sense and have completely disappeared.

Michael Aspel was, at one time, the biggest television personality in the country, well probably.

Its not like he announced his retirement, he just fucked off never to be seen again.

Presenting was once an art, people did it and bugger all else.

Now its fair game for any Comic, sports person and serial sex offender.

It's actually Purves.

But I'm sure he did/does.
