Obit for James B Downey, who appeared as Sam Phillips in Kate And Allie: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/ctpost/name/james-downey-obituary?id=37532256

This does not appear to be the Saturday Night Live writer, though IMDB has him listed as he and as dead. Wiki has a different guy with a different middle name and probably correctly has that guy alive.

I notice that Wikipedia/IMDB claim SNL Downey is the half-brother of Robert Downey Sr. and uncle of Robert Downey Jr. However, this long-standing fact actually appears to have been about the James B. Downey who just died, given that it's in the obituary linked there. What a mess.

Obviously subjective but I think he has a decent claim to being the last survivor of a death camp to go on to become famous for a reason other than being a survivor.

Appears to have been resolved on Wiki now.

IMDb is still a total mess. They've killed off the SNL one.

Matthew Perry had a 2% chance to survive his burst colon at one point, according to his memoirs:
https://www.the-sun.com/entertainment/6477310/friends-matthew-perry-nearly-died-colon-burst-addiction/

The reason was his opioid addiction. He was in a coma for 2 weeks and wore a colostomy bag for 9 months.

I finished reading Matthew Perry's book. There is also the benzos he's been taking since he was 1 month old; the cigarettes he was told would kill him by 60 if he doesn't quit now (at 53); the handle of vodka he drank daily on set. He's on suboxone for life now. All of his teeth fell out earlier this year. Drug tests have shown he's unknowingly ingested fentanyl. He has a permanent minder. I felt the book was outreach for the public to keep him away from our medicine cabinets if he stops by for an open house tour.

A must for the 2024 DL. He actually would have been a much better pick this year than Hal Linden.

You say that, until Linden dies this Summer, and Astin is still alive, for next year. ;)

Whitfield & Strong yesterday
Laverne & Shirley today

Deaths happen in 3s. Is another double act away to end before the week is out?

Cannon & Ball?
Bergman & Bergman?
