I'm keeping my shadowlist names to deathlist like names, so the likes of Christie, Sellers, etc will not be making the cut. This is what I send to msc earlier this week, although everyone apart from Osbourne (I like him at #50) has moved up one. So here's my list for next year:

  1. Stefan Karl Stefansson
  2. Billy Graham

My shadow list is in my signature and my fame barrier is that these are people whose deaths I would expect to be reported on the 6 o'clock news (in Australia) and they need to be famous in their own right. So no Joey Feek, Rene Angelil, Kate Granger etc. Of those on my list who have died, I did not see Lupita Tovar's death reported on the news which surprised me. I thought her longevity and being one of the few remaining links to those early Hollywood days (I'll stay out of the silent movie argument) might see her get a mention. Luise Rainer's death did get a mention in 2014 but then again she did win a couple of Oscars.

Anyway a solid 12 hits this year-although I have had some misses in the last couple of months where a couple of my favourites from previous years had gone toes up (Bernard Fox, Zara Nutley).

Well it looks like I'll be ending 2016 with 13/50, smashing my 2015 total of 6/50.

I was going to publish my Shadow List onto this thread and the better-than-the-committee thread today, but so many of my picks have been dying that I think I'll wait a few more days.

I'll be adding it to my signature in a few days too.

Couple of small points of clarification please

Are Shadowlists by "convention" supposed to be bound by the keep 25 from the committee list rule?

How if at all are Shadowlists different from the"your 2017 list" that also now exists and should your shadowlist basically be the same 50 as those you may have sent in to the crowdsourced deathlist or can it be different or tweaked? Is that in the spirit of the thread /idea?

My crowdsourced list is very different from the official deathlist and certainly doesn't have 25 of the names retained.

Many thanks

I think you can decide for yourself really. I stick to the 25 rule and I prefer to stick to deathlisty names but I don't think anyone will enforce it.

1) Well, I choose to abide by the 25 rule, but I don't think it's necessary. Shadow Lists don't really have "rules", since it is not an official competition. However, it is generally believed that Shadow Lists should consist of Deathlist-y picks, but some people *cough* Sir Creep *cough* tend to not abide by this and then gloat about how better they are doing then the rest of us because they stuffed their team with Daily Mail cancer mums instead of international celebrities.

2) There is no difference between this thread and the "Your 2017 list" thread. The "Your 2017 list" thread was just created by a newbie who didn't know what they were doing (no offense).

3) Well, usually people send in their Shadow List for the Crowdsourced, but you, of course, CAN change it later on. I sent in mine for the Crowdsourced a couple of weeks ago, and have made some tweaks.

Cheers thanks very much.

My crowdsourced list really didn't abide by the 25 names rule at all so I'm just debating with myself if I should bother with a shadow list or just leave it but I accept that it's no big deal. So will decide bit later on.

I agree with the committee having the 25 name rule for themselves whilst drawing up the list but I just approached crowdsourced as if it was a complete clean slate and thus up to me how many if any of the official list to carry forward as if I'm being asked to envisage a new list from scratch rather than in relation to an existing list.

Anyway most of my names if not all are famous to some degree and definitely no cancer mum types either!

I think there are two/three separate approaches.

Either you choose to follow the Committee's exact lead, retaining 25 of their current selections.

Or you begin with a completely independent selection of 50 names chosen by yourself.

If the latter, you must later decide whether to follow the DL convention and retain 25 of your own current selections for the next year.

I think I will go with the second approach and start my own full list this year but then be bound by applying a 25 name list rule to my own list in relation to my previous years list.

Thanks again

Added: Bernard Lewis, Jean Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Beverly Cleary, Denis Norden, Lyndon LaRouche, Errol Christie, Ian St John
