Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Recommended Posts

Guardian wrote an article on her a few days ago, so congratulations gcreptile on the punt. I knew about her, but there wasn’t anything about her that got me convinced that she’ll die this year...

I consider her the best pick of the competition this year (if she obits, which she will).

She had a blog, one had to follow it occasionally to see how things went bad. It was not a nice read.

Hannigan was completely unknown to me pre-new year (Maroney was the only unique of yours I didn't have to look up). Great pick gc.

Well that ends our 'low-hanging fruit' part of the author competition.

Saddened to hear about Emma Hannigans passing. My mother has read several of her books including the heartwarmer the secrets we share. She still has some of her other books waiting to be read that were Christmas gifts from moi.

Going by her social media she seems like a really lovely woman.

Following the death of Ursula K. Le Guin the earliest surviving winner of the Hugo award for best novel is Larry Niven (Ringworld). However he is not the oldest. That I think is Kate Wilhelm.

Hearing from pals Kate Wilhelm has sadly died. Seems to be true. No obit yet, but Will certainly arrive before long.

Here’s one, but by no means the best source to come...

A DDP theme team hit for me but I gave her up in 20/20

Larry Niven is now the oldest and earliest winner of the Hugo award for best novel. The only one born before 1940.

I have the complete list if any one is interested.

The Taiwanese writer and social commentator Li Ao has died of brain cancer at the age of 82.

He passed away at Veterans General Hospital in Taipei on Sunday morning, doctors said.

A vocal critic of both the mainland-friendly Kuomintang and the independence-leaning Democratic Progressive Party, Li was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July 2015 and his condition worsened in January.

He is the anti-scrabble name of all-time!  4 points includes full first and last name!

Will admit I heard the news, went to the forum and was able to think "blimey, someone actually beat Willz to the news" for about 3 seconds before the thread loaded.
