Czech writer Milan Kundera died at 91.

His best-known work is The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

Oh wow, he was a great writer. Sort of the urban fantasy of an Alasdair Gray but with the backdrop of the Spanish Civil and Barcelona history. Covid?

American author of novels such as Love, Roger (1969) and The Marriage of a Young Stockbroker (1970) Charles Webb died at 81 years:

a personnal miss. There’s a lot of frail academician in France but I didn’t think he was the next to go after Dabadie’s death last month... somehow Rene de Obaldia is still here at 101

Reminds me of 2013, when there was just so many frail old Nobel Prize winners about that I felt sure it was going to be a big year for Prize winners going. So I picked a whole bunch of them for my teams. It turned out I was right, only I picked all the wrong ones!

 

Bar the one guy who was so healthy for his age I was set up to interview him until he requested a delay through his uni as "he was a bit under the weather".... and promptly died a few months later!

Twitter reporting the death of author and birder Steve Madge at age 72. Madge was president of the Cornwall Birdwatching and Preservation Society at the time of his death and a former member of the British Birds Rarities Committee.
