Death By Selfie

Recommended Posts

This year, there already died more people from selfies than from shark attacks, twelve, to be precise:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/11881900/More-people-have-died-by-taking-selfies-this-year-than-by-shark-attacks.html

And just this week, a japanese tourist died by falling from Taj Mahal by taking a selfie:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-34287655

Last month, a man died in Spain by taking a selfie with an approaching bull:

It seems that some moments are so precious that they are worth dying for. The alternative would be that these people are simply careless, vain people who have forgotten their common sense because for them, there is no life outside of their electronic device, take your pick...

"Hey, there's a bull coming up behind that person's back, why doesn't he jump away?"

My personal favourite was the guy who found a gun lying around and thought it'd be a good idea to take a selfie while holding it:

Fascinating. Maybe he confused the gun trigger with the photo button.

Not quite but so close as to pass merit for inclusion herein.

Man poses for photo in restricted area of Machu Picchu, and apparently decided to jump in the air to make it look like he was flying. Instead, he ended up falling off the cliff.

Not sure where the hell to post this one.  I guess this will work, but feel free to advise and admonish.

A teen from Singapore died on Friday while trying to perform a risky stunt for a Snapchat video.

Johnathan Chow, 17, jumped over the railing at a Singapore mall, hoping to land safely on a ledge just beneath him.

But the ledge couldn’t support Chow’s weight and he fell through the plasterboard to his death four floors below.

There's a video if you're so inclined (it really doesn't show anything)

Near death, but alive for now.

A Hong Kong woman visiting Cebu was seriously injured after a cliff-top selfie.

Lau Ten Yan, aged 35, was hoping for the perfect picture from a 15-foot escarpment on Osmeña Peak on Saturday (April 14).

She lost her footing due to strong winds and suffered a deep cut to her stomach in the fall.

Ok hard to believe this escaped notice.  Animal Antic but I’ve got something better for that today.

After stopping to go to the toilet on his way home from a wedding, Prabhu Bhatara is said to have spotted an injured bear, so decided a selfie would be a great idea.  According to forest rangers Bhatara was killed on the spot.

Short video doesn’t show much, but longer versions are out there.

Indians seem to be abnormally effected by this phenomenon. If Indians aren't dying in their own country then they're dying in other countries as tourists.

This is misplaced.  I take it you read the title and not the article.  There wasn't anyone in a 'selfie' that died.  In fact the 'selfie' was giving Youtube available interviews about the couple that died.  it was HIS selfie, not THEIRS.  smh
