You're taking my Prince thing to literally...famous in my definition means someone who would be mentioned on TV and someone who's not pushed at the bottom of a news page but rather gets some attention. I don't even know who Bob Bennett is and I read about Afeni in Billboard but never heard of her before. I don't know all American, UK or Australian public people. Ah, so an interesting boring Tomita related tale, then: UK copyright law used to protect the works of composers and writers (literary and song wise) for 50 years after their death. In 1976 when Tomita released a version of Holst's The Planets his surviving relatives rated it such a mauling of the great man's work they insisted it be removed from shops, despite the fact it had already reached the lower end of the charts and was generating income for the Holst estate. The copies were duly returned, warehoused and released back to shops in 1984 when the copyright expired. In 1996 UK law was brought into harmony with the law of the EU meaning copyright protection now extends to 70 years plus the remainder of the calendar year in which the creative talent dies (so if you go on 1 Jan you - near enough - get 71 years of protection). By this time Holst's relatives apparently either saw sense or didn't give a shit, so they got income from the last dregs of sales on Tomita's version of The Planets into the early years of this century.
