A pilot whale named Bubbles, who spent nearly 30 years at SeaWorld in San Diego, died Thursday.

Edit: they say animals act strange before an earthquake; seems they had a pretty good 5.2+ jolt in Cali tonight. Bubbles reacted by dying rather than have to put up with more of that shit.

Arturo, the only captive polar bear in Argentina, died of complications from old age on July 3 at the Mendoza Zoological Park. He was 30 years old. Known as one of the world's saddest animals, Arturo lived in conditions that animal advocates said made him go "insane." He often exhibited stereotypic behaviors, repetitive movements that arise from the stress of captivity. In the last few years, hundreds of thousands of people signed petitions calling for Arturo's rescue from his concrete pit in the arid South American climate, which can reach temperatures as high as 100 degrees in the summer.

Don't cry for Arturo, Argentina.

Sapp was catching lobster off the Florida Keys Wednesday. Charter captain Jack Carlson said while the NFL great was grabbing a lobster, the shark was grabbing his left forearm, near the elbow.

An update: Mike will not be attending LSU home games this year, and though his tumour has been reduced he remains terminally ill but now the prognosis is 'up to' 2 years to live. Poor Mike :-(

Detroit Zoo announced Monday the passing of their eldest polar bear, Tundra, who lived 29 years. At 29, Tundra was one of the oldest bears in captivity. Polar bears have an average life span of 15-28 years in the wild, and 21-24 years in zoos.

Being from the D, I've seen this bear a few times at least.
