Aussie diddles a horse...no that's not news.  However, the horse instigated it, and that is.

According to the Grafton Daily Examiner, the guy told police that the horse had sniffed his crotch, then made direct eye contact with him and winked. And that’s why, he said, banging the horse was totally consensual.

Unconvinced, police charged him with an act of animal cruelty for 1) sexually penetrating the animal and 2) forcing it to perform fellatio.

Police interviewed the horse and asked it if the sex was indeed consensual, it’s reply was “neigh”.

Not really, she seemed to take a fit this morning and lost all power in her back legs. She couldn't really stand, although she tried.

The Kansas City Zoo names its three baby otters after well-known "Star Wars" characters.  The Asian small-clawed otter triplets born last October have been dubbed Han, Luke and Leia. The otters were introduced to zoo-goers for the first time on Friday.

Trevor the duck, whose tale of loneliness on the tiny Pacific island nation of Niuemade him a local celebrity and captured headlines last year, has died.  He was found dead in the bush after being attacked by dogs, according to a social media page dedicated to the drake.

The mallard is thought to have been blown on to the island during a storm about a year ago. He came to global prominence after an article by the New Zealand Herald that chronicled his life in a roadside puddle due to an absence of wetlands or ponds across Niue.

He was named Trevor, after New Zealand’s parliamentary speaker, Trevor Mallard. “Deepest sympathy to the people of Niue from the parliament of New Zealand,” Mallard posted on social media on Monday.

Animal trainer Ashley Watts was separating a 14-year-old lion named Matthai into a section of an enclosure at the Conservators Center in Burlington (NC) on Dec. 30.  Watts said the gate securing that section was blocked by a large ball and the lion entered the area that Watts, 22-year-old intern Alex Black and a second intern were cleaning. Before she could close the gate, the lion bit Black's ankle, pulling her into the enclosure.

Fire department personnel used a firehose to separate the lion and Black without success. The lion dragged Black around the enclosure by her neck "for an extended amount of time." After attempts to sedate the lion with darts failed, deputies shot the lion eight times, killing the animal.

RIP Matthai

A dog has been found safe after being missing for 101 days after the California wildfires.

He survived by hunting skunks.

Quote

Kingston, who the family say was known to hunt skunks before the fire, smelled so strongly of the pungent odour that volunteers spent several hours washing him before reuniting him with the Ballejos family.

"He still smelled even though they used stuff that neutralises the skunk smell."

First up, I hate rats. Almost phobic about the wee shites. Ever since as a boy I read Herbert combined with the time spent on farms etc they are the bogey animal.

Yet..... How cute is this fat wee sewer rat caught in Germany?

I had a dog (Freedom the Ibizan Hound) who got sprayed in the face once by a skunk -- let me tell you it takes a solid 6 months for that smell to dissipate.

A woman was mauled to death by two of her dogs in her South Carolina front yard.

Nancy Cherryl Burgess-Dismuke, 52, was reportedly playing with the animals in Greenville when the boxer mixes suddenly turned aggressive and attacked her, according to authorities.

Neighbors ran to her rescue after hearing Burgess-Dismuke yelling but couldn't get the dogs off her. "I did everything I could," Denzel Whiteside, a neighbor, told WHNS.

Whiteside grabbed an ax (cue @Boudicca) to fend the dogs off, and Burgess-Dismuke was able to run away and get over a fence in the yard, according to local reports.

She had already been severely injured, however.
