Mark Flynn (wiki), SNP leader of Dundee City Council (and father of SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn), diagnosed with cancer.

Only took over as leader in September.

63 next year... same age as Janey Godley funnily enough.

Facebook post reporting the death of Manfred Ohrenstein (wiki), aged 99.

Democratic Member of the New York State Senate from 1961 to 1994, and Minority Leader from 1975 to 1994 (hell of a long tenure!).

One political name worthy of being on the radar is the outgoing West Virginia Governor who has just been elected Senator Jim Justice.Justice turns 74 next year and was said to weigh 368 lbs standing at 6 foot 8 in 2019 giving him a BMI of 40.He has been hospitalised before and doesn't stand for very long during speeches often delivering the majority of them sitting down.

He sums up the USA senate. Newly elected despite being well past retirement age and already in health decline.

I like the name "Jim Justice"; it looks like a store brand GI Joe.

Justice seems to be an old school paternalistic oligarch, a tax-avoiding, safety code-violating owner of mines, farms and a luxury hotel, but who seems about as moderate as a contemporary Republican is allowed to be under the Trump regime.

He also has a bulldog called Babydog, who weighs 60lb, likes chicken nuggets, has been used to promote covid vaccination uptake, and has had a waterfall named after her.

Sounds like a good dog. Although I'm curious if the US government recognizes the waterfall name...

Chuwit Kamolvisit de...cides to return to Thailand.

Obviously not well, but given that he has been in hospice for nearly six months, and has outlasted his cancer prognosis by eight, he's not looking as awful as expected.

Serge Vohor, who has served as Vanuatu's Prime Minister on four occasions, has been airlifted to Australia for urgent medical treatment.

Only 13 years later, Serge Vohor, five-time Prime Minister of Vanuatu is being reported dead at 69.

Worth noting again that the founding President of the country (Ati George Sokomanu) is still alive and will turn 88 in January.

Five-time prime minister, but spent less time in office than Gordon Brown. I didn't know Vanuatu had so many political scandals.

Not to compedbump, but this guy would have been the ultimate "picked by 6 DDP teams all in the top 10" name if he'd made it to the 2025 starting line.

Quite difficult to track Libyan heads of state/government:

1)Abdessalam Jalloud (1944): living in Italy, appeared in 2021, rumoured dead of COVID in April 2020.

2)Jadallah Azzuz al-Talhi (1939): profiled here in 2018. Can't find anything recent.

3)Muhammad az-Zaruq Rajab (1940): profiled by the site above in 2019. Some recent pic on Facebook but don't know when they were taken.

4)Muhammad az-Zanati (1937): covered in September 2022.

5)Mohammed Ali Salim (1935): has this guy ever existed? Head of state for one day in 2012, completely disappeared later.  @arghton, @Ulitzer95, @Gisooo?

Mohammed Ali Salim died in 2022.

Australia has a lot of elderly politicians. Bill Grayden is 102, Elisabeth Kirkby is 101, Wylie Gibbs is 100, Tom Hughes and Bill Nankivell are 99, former Governor of South Australia Eric Neal is 98, Ron Elstob is 97, Hugh Hiscutt and former President of the Senate Doug McClelland are 96 (not sure if Neville Harper is alive, if he is, he's also 96), Bruce Eastick, Bob Ellicott and others are 95.

Tom Hughes dead at 101.
