Paul Bearer 6,102 Posted January 7, 2007 Just been anounced David Ervine (Progressive Unionist Party) has been admitted to hospital. (Criticaly Ill) Could this be the first decent famous near miss? link (edit) I'm sure there's another political thread somewhere
maryportfuncity 10,654 Posted January 7, 2007 He's not the first significant near miss cos Magnus Magnussen has just trumped him on that score. Main BBC News site are trailing both headlines.
BrunoBrimley 86 Posted January 7, 2007 Just been anounced David Ervine (Progressive Unionist Party) has been admitted to hospital. (Criticaly Ill) Could this be the first decent famous near miss? Now no offense oh wise and sagely one; but how famous could the man be seeing as how I have never hear of him and I have eaten blue jello. And isn't putting progressive and unionist together something of an oxymoron? (I never will understand British politics)

maryportfuncity 10,654 Posted January 7, 2007 Ervine news story, still not saying much other than 'taken ill at home' and 'critical.' A combination that often means heart trouble, but we'll see. Not aware anyone - even OSP - even considered him a candidate for carketure.
Guest Guest Posted January 8, 2007 I hope he pulls through.I met him once and he seemed a decent man committed to peace-why couldnt it be Ian Paisley?
maryportfuncity 10,654 Posted January 8, 2007 Latest news, still critical. Started with a heart attack then had a stroke and brain haemorrhage in hospital. Potential causes of death eh? Like buses, you wait for ages for one and three come along at the same time!
Dr Hackenslash 25 Posted January 8, 2007 I hope he pulls through.I met him once and he seemed a decent man committed to peace-why couldnt it be Ian Paisley? Depends if what someone becomes is more important than what they were. Ervine was imprisoned in Long Kesh in 1974 while an active member of the UVF, after being arrested driving a car bomb to its presumed target of a pub frequented by Catholic civilians Paisley may be vocal, but... DevonDeathTrip 2,358 Posted May 25, 2007 Bartholomew Ulufa'alu is going on my DDP next year. Anyone with a name as fantastic as that is deserving of more widespread recognition. I suggest you think again. Ulufa'alu has made a full recovery from his emergency stay in hospital and resigned his post as finance minister on Monday over the Solomon Isle's links with Australia. You can add him on for the name, but don't expect him to die. Terrible call OoO, hang your head in shame.
Octopus of Odstock 2,203 Posted May 25, 2007 Terrible call OoO, hang your head in shame. Ah well, sh*t happens. I also thought Lord Renton would easily reach his century. Probably explains why I'm only mid-table in the DDP

Banshees Scream 110 Posted March 22, 2008 Since when have Nepal, Fiji and Cambodia been in Europe? Well, wouldn't you agree that expanding the discussion to Former European Presidents And Prime Minister's would make the thread more informative and interesting? I really think so. It would give readers more options to post about and besides, it's better to have a thread which covers 'a whole category' then a thread which would only cover 1\3 of the category. This way, it's basically limiting a subject to one thread instead of four threads. You know what I mean?
Paul Bearer 6,102 Posted March 22, 2008 I've changed the name of this thread omitting the word 'European'

Okey, but before I started the post I went online too check out all the chosen leaders of Europe who are 90+. If someone else has 90+ suggestions outside Europe please place them here. Maybe we should merge the thread with the Political Fraility thread, which serves much the same purpose. Someone should really start a separate thread for monarchs/politicians of Nepal, Cambodia and Fiji and, of course, the other countries in their region. TAFKAG 70 Posted March 23, 2008 Since when have Nepal, Fiji and Cambodia been in Europe? Maybe we should merge the thread with the Political Fraility thread, which serves much the same purpose. Threads merged - LG I am not agreeing with this merge. I started this post because the politics on this site are always very UK/USA oriented. When there is a lot of attention to somewhat lesser important English or American politicians, a lot of important chosen leaders of other contry's are forgotten. Take Francis Pym for instance he was very important for the UK, but when I saw on this site he was dead I started looking on all the European stations that I can get on my television and only the BBC had news about him and/or his dead. That's why I think the site should only be foccused on Monarchs, Presidents and Prime Ministers and it should forget (unless they have a great reason) all the ministers, senators or other politicians under them. These are just my thoughts. My thoughts: You're a topic-whoring young twat. Your grasp of English is abysmal, even for a Dutchie (cf the great Magere Hein). Please calm down and respect the forum - this topic was merged for a good reason.
deadsox 894 Posted March 23, 2008 Why can't we leave Vaagy's thread as he wants it? He sounds like a reasonable poster and I think his English is just fine.
The For Whores Man 4 Posted March 23, 2008 Why can't we leave Vaagy's thread as he wants it? He sounds like a reasonable poster and I think his English is just fine. I agree with deadsox. TAFKAG, you seem always ready to call other people bad names. Maybe when you have some respect yourself in this forum, then you can start being abusing (if approbriate, not like this time) other people? Maybe new members should be a bit more carfeul as we all know that arguing on internet is stupid and a waste of time. I think there are already so many threads, one more (for Vaagheid's odiginal purpose) is not too much. So far, every single of his posts are on-topic (I think). Godot 149 Posted March 23, 2008 Easy folks. We've also got famous Belgians. How European is that? Plenty scope for your Euro-politicos here. Good list Vaagheid by the way. We all gotta merge sometime. What about that guy who used to say "Nil points!" on Jeux Sans Frontieres? Was it Guido Pancaldi? He was pretty important, must be getting on a bit. Should he be on the list? I welcome this debate. It's about time this site began to take .
