Meanwhile...

Lee Teng-hui has recovered from aspiration pneumonia, but he remains on life support in ICU and is too weak to be discharged. Doctors are monitoring him to avoid multiple organ failure.

Former Italian Minister and current Senator Roberto Calderoli, one of the founding fathers of Lega Nord, has had bowel cancer since 2012.

Meanwhile ailing Lega Nord founder Umberto Bossi has been discharged and is now seeking medical attention in Switzerland.

Umberto Bossi hospitalised again, but not in a serious condition. Well, his life was never that serious.

So, to recap on disgraced former Labour MP Eric Joyce, 59, a man thrown out of the army and parachuted into a safe Labour seat before making it specifically toxic for Labour based on his own skills. First he lost the Labour whip for headbutting a Tory MP, then he lost his job for being an alcoholic wreck, then his marriage split because he shagged a school girl.

Now he's in the dock, confessing to "making indecent images of a child" and facing jail time.

In between all this he helped change the Labour rules which saw about the election of Jeremy Corbyn and was a prime source for party gossip in the tabloids. Presumably no longer. But the man's a trainwreck which is going to end only one way.

It's just got even worse. He  has just pleaded guilty to the child porn charge and been told he will probably go to jail when he's sentenced next month. And he was MP for my constituency for 15 years. If only we knew...

Đồng Sĩ Nguyên, who succeeded the late Do Muoi as Minister of Construction and who was also Deputy PM of Vietnam for nine years, has died aged 96. He was responsible for mantaining the Ho Chi Minh trail during the war and was interviewed in 2017 documentary The Vietnam War.  The documentary also contained an interview to Republic of Vietnam colonel Trần Ngọc Châu, (1923),  former DDP pick. Among the Southerners who fled to America I'd like to remember general Tran Thien Khiem (1925), the last PM of South Vietnam, who has received his Christening last year and was very frail. Oh, and dying mr. Ly Tong (1946) of course.

Trần Ngọc Châu died in Los Angeles on 17th June from COVID-19 complications, aged 96.

Washington Post obit.

And as always, a funeral is good for checking the leadership. Zhu Rongji and Song Ping expressed their condolences, though it is not specified if they appeared.

Strangely the only absent name, who did not even express condolences, is Jiang Zemin. IMHO this rather suggests that he could not stand Shen Jilan rather than imminent death. But once again many think otherwise...

Rather the first option, as he even found time to visit then-ailing now-dead minor figure Cao Zhi in hospital.

Same source that informed me of Gerald Kaufman’s imminent demise tells me that the Lord Speaker, Norman Fowler, is seriously ill. In and out of hospital and staying at his home in the Isle of Man.

Can absolutely believe that based on recent photos in which he has looked skeletal. I suspect terminal cancer sadly.

I did wonder if his decision to not come into the Lord's was motivated by factors other than age.As has been said he has looked unwell for a while now.

He wasn't looking that bad last year - quite lively in fact. Any of these more recent pics to hand?

Thanks. This was Norman filming early 2019.

Watching the video below the pic above on his twitter he was clearly lost a fair bit of weight in a hurry and his voice is weaker too. The evidence certainly seems to backs up Ulitzer's source (as does precedent).

Isle of Wight not Isle of Man.

If he gets near death I think he would quit as Lord Speaker.

Yes sorry. I knew it was Isle of Wight. Not sure why I typed Man.

Anyway, I don’t know what his illness is. I did ask and got a half arsed response, but it sounds like he has months. If he makes it to the starting line of 2021, he should be on the DL.

Feels stubbon he wouldn't step down from still having to do his duties from home.
