Political Frailty

Recommended Posts

I removed him. Cesar Yanes Urias is a bit on the border too, as he was a member of a junta.

If I'm missing someone from the 1960s, mention them as all of the people I have on that list currently are from the wikipedia 100 oldest living state leaders list or the under 30-year old state leaders since 1900 list

Is junta member Rubén Alonso Rosales alive? Born in 1925, wikipedia doesn't mention a death date. Member of the same junta as Urias.

Rene Fortín Magaña (1931-2020) is another member of the junta still alive. All the other three (or four) than Magaña, Urias and possibly Rosales are dead.

A quick list of old Chinese politicos, one of the hardest thing to kill in this world.

1)Song Ping (1917): political leader of Gansu who rose to the Organization Department in the 80s. He was the one responsible for ending the careers of those who opposed Tien An Men repression. Due to his excellent work (and profound hatred for Zhao Zhiyang) he was promoted to the Politburo after the massacre. Considered very close to Hu JIntao. Widowed since last year.

Happy belated 104th birthday to Song Ping! :birthday:

Ele Alenius, 95-year old former Finnish second minister of the interior and only 60s Finnish minister alive isn't in bad condition. In this article he talks about his political career in the 60s and 70s and how, despite being a socialist, he was against the invasion of Czechoslovakia and managed to anger the soviet ambassador to finland with his anti-soviet comments. He's one of the four in my profile picture.

Also talked about going to a nursing home because a friend he made during wwII is there. He was widowed ten years ago.

Also, I discovered something interesting about this man a while ago.

He was in 1931 Finnish silent movie Rovastin Häämatkat as "Little boy at a railway station"

Shahabuddin has been gravely ill for years. He looked like a skeleton in early 2018. On his 91st birthday he was reported to be "receiving treatment in Dhaka". Pakistani president Rafiq Tarar has been sick for at least four years and recently lost his wife.

Shahabuddin has died.

Not Shahabuddin Ahmed, the former (acting and normal) President of Bangladesh but Mohammad Shahabuddin (1967-2021) an Indian Member of Parliament and murdering bastard.

Of course its not Shahabuddin Ahmed; he's on my DDP team and therefore will live another 10 years, unless I take him off prior to that, in which case he'll die within days.

PS, Bangladesh not Pakistan. and actual President as well as acting President.

Can't see this mentioned (feel free to prove me wrong.)

Shadow Senator for Puerto Rico Carlos Romero Barceló has died.

He was 88, and served as Mayor of San Juan (1969-1977), Governor of Puerto Rico (1977-1985), Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico (1993-2001) and obviously Shadow Senator since 2017.

Senator Barceló was the Democratic half of the Puerto Rican Senate delegation.

Some inside gossip I've received...

Sir Jamie McGrigor (wiki), 72 in October, former Conservative MSP, lifelong smoker and big drinker, is in a bad way I'm told. Walks around with an oxygen tank. Somehow survived a bout of COVID at the end of last year. One to watch
John Scott (wiki), 70 next month, current Conservative MSP and re-standing in this week's election. I posted last year the media coverage on how he had "survived" pancreatic cancer. I was skeptical at the time, because very few people (less than 5–10%) do. Told he's "in remission" but still being treated. Not in the all-clear and certainly not in the best shape.

An aside...
Donnie MacMillan is another name I've just come across. He's the oldest councillor in Scotland – an independent in Argyll, and he's served for about 40 years. Turns 94 in October. He received a British Empire Medal in 2019 and I'm told that he's not only restanding next year but wants to be the first centenarian councillor in the UK. We'll see...

Deadpoolers this could be worth keeping an eye on . Andy Corkhill,  the Liberal Democrats original candidate  for  Metro mayor for the Liverpool  City Region  had to drop out of the race quite late on due to the reoccurrence  of his cancer.

I added new pictures for these three. Kaunda's is from 28th of April 2021, Banda's is from 30th of April 2021 and Scott's is from 21th of November 2020.

Kaunda: Can't look at camera well anymore, rumored to suffer from multiple diseases.

Banda: Has colon cancer diagnosed at the end of last year, went through 12 cycles of chemo.

Scott: Reported ailing in January 2020, hospitalized in October 2020. This is the guy who said that Michael Sata isn't ailing 18 months before he died. Has had parkinson's for over 7 years.

Banda's picture is from last week, when he visited Japan Tobacco International offices:

Yeah, John Scott humped out of his Ayr seat held for over 20 years, by the SNP.

High profile casualty guarantees him obits.
