I think we'd have to think the unthinkable to imagine he'll still be alive in 2022.

Barbados will become a republic on the 30th of November, becoming the first country to cease being a commonwealth realm since Mauritius in 1992.

The President-elect is Sandra Mason the current Governor-General since 2018.

I started wondering how many of the people who succeeded QEII as Head of State has she outlived (or not, atlest yet)? Here's a list:

Ghana (1957-1960): Kwame Nkrumah (1909-1972, President 1960-1966)

South Africa (1952-1961): C. R. Swart (1894-1982, State President 1961-1967)

Tanganyika (1961-1962): Julius Nyerere (1922-1999, President 1962-1964, later President of Tanzania 1964-1985)

Nigeria (1960-1963): Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe (1904-1996, President 1963-1966)

Uganda (1962-1963): Mutesa II of Buganda (1924-1969, President 1963-1966)

Kenya (1963-1964): Jomo Kenyatta (c. 1897-1978, President 1964-1978)

Guyana (1966-1970): Arthur Chung (1918-2008, President 1970-1980)

Rhodesia (1965-1970): Clifford Dupont (1905-1978, President 1970-1976)

Sierra Leone (1961-1971): Siaka Stevens (1905-1988, President 1971-1985)

Ceylon (1952-1972): William Gopallawa (1896-1981, President 1972-1978)

Malta (1964-1974): Anthony Mamo (1909-2008, President 1974-1976)

Trinidad and Tobago (1962-1976): Ellis Clarke (1917-2010, President 1976-1987)

Fiji (1970-1987): Penaia Ganilau (1918-1993, President 1987-1993)

Mauritius (1968-1992): Veerasamy Ringadoo (1920-2000, President 1992)

Barbados (1966-2021): Sandra Mason (1949-, President-elect)

Fofi Gennimata, leader of the Greek Social Democrats, dead after a long cancer fight at 56 (or 57?):

https://greekreporter.com/2021/10/25/greek-socialist-fofi-gennimata-dies/

Meh, she had just stepped down two weeks ago. The cancer must have been far too advanced already.

Edit: Here is a DDP QO, curiously under the "US politics" section... what's happening on the obit front lately?

Khaleda Zia's supporters, family and party says that she needs to go abroad for treatment. She has previously suffered from heart, kidney and liver diseases, diabetes, lung troubles and bad arthritis, now has fever and is now reported to be suffering from rheumatroid arhritis, ophthalmological and dental complications...The Daily Star also mentions high blood sugar, urinary tract infection and "other old-age problems" (+depression), some of this might be post-covid stuff.

I don't know how much of this is lies but she is not well and her health seems to have actually declined after catching covid.

Nguyen Con (1915, he came before Do Muoi and looks like a zombie)

Whatever happened to Nguyen Con? He was looking like this in 2017, when marking 80 years of Party membership:

Website Văn phòng Chính phủ | Trao Huy hiệu 80 năm tuổi Đảng cho nguyên Phó Thủ tướng Nguyễn Côn - Trao Huy hieu 80 nam tuoi Dang cho nguyen Pho Thu tuong Nguyen Con

So how the hell can this guy survive other four years? Well, he has as he celebrates his 85th year of membership in the same hospital. Only he now looks like this, at the spright age of 106:

Yes! Vietnamese state media are censoring his face for how bad he looks. He is probably the frailest man on Earth as things stand. Creepy to even think he is still going, he was a zombie five years ago.

How many frail/corpse-like politicians does Vietnam (still) have?

Here are some:

Nguyễn Thị Bình, VP 1992-2002 and Paris Peace Accords negotiator celebrated her 75th year of party membership recently. (https://nld.com.vn/thoi-su/chu-tich-nuoc-trao-huy-hieu-75-nam-tuoi-dang-cho-nguyen-pho-chu-tich-nuoc-nguyen-thi-binh-20211024153423893.htm)

Can still stand but looking pale and frail.

Out of ICU, health "improving", given liquid food.

On the other hand she might have cancer. How long will she keep collecting health problems/diagnoses? Over the past years and months she has had or currently has (or "has", as seems like her supporters tend to lie about her conditions) lung, heart, kidney, liver diseases, covid, diabetes, ophthalmological and dental complications, high blood sugar, urinary tract infection, depression, arthritis/osteoarthritis, post-covid complications, breathing issues, fever (atleast three times this year, in May, July and apparently also now), a mild stroke in 2018 and has been hospitalised multiple times this year (been in ICU and CCU and been given oxygen) and has been in a wheelchair with a bloated-looking pale face for years. Hasn't had pneumonia yet AFAIK, doesn't have dementia yet, but I guess she'll get them later.

Wikipedia says Nguyen Con was born in 1917 so he's actually 104. They had 3 other centenarian deputy prime ministers - Vo Nguyen Giap (1911-2013), Do Muoi (1917-2018) and Hoang Anh (1912-2016) and 2 almost centenarian presidents - Vo Chi Cong (1912-2011) and Le Duc Anh (1920-2019). Also several living people in their 90s who served as vice president or deputy prime minister. I think Vietnam even beats Japan in terms of longetivity among politicians.

Thanks to this amazing list. We know he was the 2nd oldest governor!

Incidentally, would anyone be able to figure out who is now the 100th oldest living US governor? My (admittedly brief) searching hasn't conjured anything yet...

Oceania's Political Frailty, list of Oceanian leaders by birth year (Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings...) born in and after 1916, plus honorary mentions who lived to the 2000s and have lead a country in Oceania before the day this list was posted. Oceanian politicians (excluding NZ and Australia) tend to die young, good picks for pools.

Bold is used to mark national founders, dictators and monarchs.

Catherine Tizard (1931-) Governor-General of New Zealand 1990-1996

William Deane (1931-) Governor-General of Australia 1996-2001

Michael Hardie Boys (1931-) Governor-General of New Zealand 1996-2001

Paulias Matane (1931-) Governor-General of Papua New Guinea 2004-2010

Oceanians have no staying in power. Except the ones from New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea as well as some ancient political rolling stones such as Vanuatu's Sokomanu and Samoa's Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi.

Finally one of these four dead, Dame Catherine Tizard has died at the age of 90 after a long illness:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/454628/dame-catherine-tizard-dies-aged-90

No Oceanian leaders left from before 1931, 1932 or 1934, one from 1933 which is the wheelchair-bound, stroke survivor Bill Hayden, Gov-Gen of Australia 1989-1996. 1931 has Deane (not seen in public for years AFAIK), Hardie Boys (not seen in public for years) and Matane (skeletal, lost a ton of weight recently)

1935 has NZ PM Jim Bolger and Australia's controversial Gov-Gen Peter Hollingworth.

1936 has Tuvalu's secretive leaders Tulaga Manuella and Kamuta Latasi, 1937 has only Vanuatu's founding president Sokomanu who was removed from power in 1986 for gross misconduct, can still stand and walk without assistance
