Quite a few Scottish members on this Forum. Anyone know much about the health of some of the names here? I'm aware of Winnie Ewing being ill. I think Bill Walker has also been ill. Nanette Milne and Tom Mason have had illnesses in the past. Mason will surely be standing down next time, even if he hasn't announced his retirement yet.

Anybody mentioned Chic Brodie's death here? https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/ayrshire/former-msp-town-campaigner-chic-28075912

He was quite a character / nutter, though always found him to be an alright guy.

Tried to gatecrash the Scottish Conservative conference about 10 years ago by climbing over the wall. Stopped by the police and he proclaimed “But I’m an MSP!!”.

Cancer. Only diagnosed 5 weeks ago too.

Rep. Mark Souder has not yet received a QO for the few pools he was picked in.... however, he was last mentioned in a QO source in August, when Rep. Walorski of Indiana died in a car crash.

The special election to fill that seat will be held in November and will be the first special election in Indiana since the resignation of ...Mark Souder.

Ancient Chinese politician, 105-year-old former politburo member Song Ping has allegedly made a public appearance recently with Zhu Rongji:

Song Ping is making the headlines as his recent message goes against Xi, as old Song is calling for reforms. State media have partially censored Song's interview.

Ironic considering he was the hardliner in 1989!

Gets quite the complimentary Telegraph obit.

I think many nowadays just knew him as an old crank, but the obit reveals a long history of interactions with significant events, incl. with Donald Trump (who he initially quarrelled with but the two later became friends) and Roy Jenkins.

Oh quite understandable, MSPs aren't all just glorified councillors or jumped up football referees you know.

I'd have thought perhaps a Times obit, but a Telegraph one...on the back of the Trump Turnberry story for sure!

There was also this wheelchairbound guy who looked absolutely horrible:

Interestingly he was probably one of the former/current heads of govt/state or VPs. Not sure at all who. In attendance a few unmentioned leaders for example "A former President of Germany", "a former President of France", "a former VP of Zimbabwe", "former President of Switzerland" and "a former President of Turkmenistan".

Lots of former Heads of State and Govt there.

I wonder if it could've been Richard Armitage, Bush's Deputy Secretary of State 2001-2005 when Colin Powell was the Secretary of State? This man was with a group of people following Kamala Harris, and apparently Armitage was in the  US delegation.

Revealed in a data hack that Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez "AMLO" Obrador has been diagnosed with a form of angina and had 10 medical consultations in the first half of January

The Russian backed heads of the four newly annexed regions of Ukraine might be worth a shot (perhaps literally, as well as metaphorically)

Yevgeny Balitsky - Zaporizhzhia

Vladimir Saldo - Kherson,

Denis Pushilin - Donetsk 'People’s Republic'

Leonid Pasechnik - Luhansk 'People’s Republic'

Historically, politicians who collaborate with invading forces often face a day of reckoning and this bunch, as well as their little friend, will be looking over their shoulders for the rest of their lives. I'm not sure they'll all make old bones...

Kerala MLA who was destined to become Kerala CM, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, dead at 68 from pancreatic cancer.

While his death itself is not so interesting, this article from two weeks ago mentions a series of ailing Kerala politicians:

*Kodiyeri Balakrishnan (1953), pancreatic cancer

*Pinarayi Vijayan (1945),  CM of Kerala, suffers from cancer, receives occasional treatment in the US.

*Oomen Chandy (1943), predecessor of Pinaray, suffers from throat cancer

*K. Sudhakaran (1948), sitting MP, likely suffers from throat cancer, treated at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota

*V.M. Sudheeran (1948), former MP, suffers from multiple health issues and has not appeared in public for years

*VS Achuthanandan (1923), we all know him, suffered cerebral hemorrhage in 2018, acute kidney failure and life support in 2021, survived COVID this year. Still better than the above, much younger guys.

Mulayam Singh Yadav hospitalised in critical condition in ICU:

A while ago I bet he'd have, probably one more hospitalisation. This time I think he won't survive.

I just read that. Seems very very serious, it's making national headlines quickly.

Seems a huge streak of hospitalizations is coming to an end.

Found an old article on Khamtai Siphandone's (98-year-old dictator of Laos from the 90s to 2006, richest man in the country) health issues from 2016, don't think this has ever been mentioned before:

https://www.rfa.org/lao/daily/politics/former-president-khamtay-siphandone-had-stroke-02112016002337.html

He was "healthy" (but extremely frail and suffered from high BP) until February 2016. On the 10th of February 2016 he suffered a severe stroke, was rushed to a Hanoi military hospital by plane with 2-3 of his children and was put on oxygen. Don't think there's been any actual news on his health since, last public appearance was in December 2021.

He's currently either stable or critical and some sources say he's on ventilator. Anyways, "being treated under the supervision of oncologists"

Stable for now according to them, his relatives and politicians, but a lot of things seem to point to him having advanced cancer. Some sources say he's been seriously declining for a month or two now and he was already on oxygen last month.

No matter how stable he is, he's reportedly on ventilator, treated by oncologists and his family has rushed to the hospital. And no pictures of him have been released yet. Everything about this sounds grim. My bet is the 4th of October.

Times obit.

Clarifies that the cause of death was oesophageal cancer. Nasty one that, and unsurprising that he only lasted 5 weeks after diagnosis.

My mate told me it was throat cancer. I've since explained to him what the oesophagus and the throat are different things. :P

Still stable in ICU/CCU, on dialysis and surrounded by a "comprehensive team of specialists"*. Some reports say that he's "improving and off ventilator" but some say that he hasn't improved.

*Specialized in keeping old Asian politicians alive.
