Still stable in ICU/CCU, on dialysis and surrounded by a "comprehensive team of specialists"*. Some reports say that he's "improving and off ventilator" but some say that he hasn't improved.

Mulayam Singh Yadav critical again. There's a picture circulating on twitter, not 100% sure if it's him:

Also here's a list of the first leaders of countries that gained independence when the Soviet Union collapsed (and before):

SOVIET UNION (1922-1991)

...

Premiers:

Nikolai Ryzhkov (1929-) Head of Government as Chairman of the Council of Ministers 1985-1991. Suffered a serious heart attack in 1990 but still active in politics.

Ivan Silayev (1930-) Head of Government as Chairman of the Committee on the Operational Management of the Soviet economy and Chairman of the Inter-republican Economic Committee 1991.

Other

...

Estonia (20th of August 1991):

Living from before independence:

Karl Vaino (1923-2022) First Secretary of the Communist Party/leader 1979-1988.

Vaino Väljas (1931-) First Secretary of the Communist Party 1988-1989.

Ukraine (24th of August 1991):

After independence:

Leonid Kravchuk (1934-2022) First acting President 1991 and first President 1991-1994. Still active. Died after long illness on the 10th of May 2022.

Vitold Fokin (1932-) First acting Prime Minister 1990-1991 and first Prime Minister 1990/1991-1992. Also still active.

Uzbekistan (1st of September 1991):

Living from before independence:

Rafiq Nishonov (1926-) First secretary 1988-1989, leader of Uzbek SSR before Karimov.

Karakalpah ASSR: Kalibek Kamalov (1926-) First Secretary 1963-1984

Checked on some nonagenarian Soviet politicians:

Here's Nikolai Ryzhkov, Gorby's Premier who has later sold his soul to Putin, last month, doesn't look bad for 93:

ryzhkov.png.d7be6b77dabd570d8a92160926f85268.png

I expect Silayev is in bad health as he hasn't made any appearances in years. He'll be 92 this month.

Vaino Väljas looks a bit frail in new pictures. (There's one probably from this year on facebook, but it's quite low quality)

Vitold Fokin, first Prime Minister of post-independence Ukraine (not 90 yet, but will be this month) lives in Moldova as far as I know. Here's a recent-ish picture, probably around April/May:

fokin.png.9f2877d48390b6c146db27ddee0282f3.png

I wonder if he'll obit when he dies, I expect he would if he dies anytime soon.

Kalibek Kamalov, longtime leader of the Karakalpak Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, in May. Doesn't look bad for 96 and apparently he's still quite sharp:

kalibek.png.e2470e74f0dbb34ac53bc3dda0c636ec.png

He lives in Uzbekistan judging on the flag on the guy next to him. Uzbekistan also has Rafiq Nishonov, a much more powerful old guy who was the leader of the Uzbek SSR before the late Islam Karimov. Nishonov will be 97 in January and as far as I know hasn't been anywhere in over a year. Ancient Tajik SSR leader Nizoramo Zaripova will be 99 next month.

They're in the same hospital apparently. Lalu Prasad Yadav is also there (but seemingly only to visit Mulayam's son), as well as the Haryana CM who said that Chautala and Singh Yadav are "both recovering"...:banghead:

Here's the video of LPY arriving:

There's some kind of extra info on Mulayam's condition going around now. In addition to his chronic diseases he currently suffers from UTI, kidney infection+failure, uncontrollable BP, unstable oxygen levels and a "lung problem".

He's critical in ICU, on ventilator and as normal dialysis didn't cause the wanted results earlier he's now undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) meaning he's also on dialysis 24/7. This was probably decided in that emergency meeting earlier. Should've picked him somewhere.

Mulayam still critical in ICU, ventilator/life support the sixth day and the treatment isn't working. He was (again) reported "very critical" by some news sites earlier.

His death seems inevitable at this point but I wonder how long this phase will continue. They'll do whatever they can to extend his life and tons of people including multiple politicians have already said they can donate a kidney or two to him.

Meanwhile Mulayam's reportedly having a massive kidney infection now. Two other indian politicians, Sharad Yadav and Satya Pal Malik have visited the hospital recently to ask about Mulayam's health and his son is also there again.

Regarding the supervillains in the "third front" of Indian politics Chautala was organizing in 2021 :

1)Om Prakash Chautala (1935): hospitalised in October 2022 with stomach infection and other ailments.

2)Mulayam Singh Yadav (1939): hospitalised multiple times in recent years, survived COVID in 2021, now critical in ICU.

3)HD Deve Gowda (1933): suffered from COVID twice, wheelchair bound, bloated legs, multiple falls.

4)Parkash Singh Badal (1927): hospitalised multiple times for heart/stomach issues, survived COVID.

The bright idea to form a political faction made only of octogenarians and nonagenarians...

And all except Deve Gowda have been hospitalised during recent months as far as I know. Sharad Pawar would've made a good fifth. Lalu Prasad Yadav was probably too young.

There's going to be a lot of major and less major Indian political deaths in the next years. Nearly all of the many living CMs born 1935 or before seem to be in bad health or have been hospitalised recently (with the exception of SC Jamir, Shanta Kumar and DD Lapang who however looks like a living heart attack) and lots of the younger ones seem to be in very bad health (Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee should've logically died two years ago, Pinarayi Vijayan and Oommen Chandy reportedly both suffer from cancer, Amarinder Singh, Sharad Pawar, of course Mulayam and Lalu Prasad, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Harish Rawat and the zombielike Shibu Soren) and there are a ton of living elderly governors, other politicians.

With Xi Jingping set to be declared premier for life one notable dissenting voice is that of Song Ping (mentioned hereabouts on a thread or two). Song's likely worth dragging up to the top a few times this year. Old school in the extreme but still has his wits about him. Either he's pitching in because he's experienced enough to see the folly of leaders who last until they die and create lasting ructions inside the party in their decline, or - maybe thinking back to the last days of Mao - Song's thinking that by the old standards he still stands a chance of the top job and - at a mere 105 years old - recognises that by old school Chinese communist standards he's in his prime.

Obitable, mind - wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_Ping

Mulayam  "quite critical" today. Not sure what's the difference to "critical". Some sources say he's "extremely critical" instead which sounds a bit worse.

There was some talk about Prime Ministers/Presidents outliving their cabinets in the Carter thread. Toshiki Kaifu (1931-2022) Japanese Prime Minister 1989-1991 has outlived nearly all of his cabinet except, according to his cabinet's Japanese wiki page:

Taro Nakayama (b. 1924) Foreign Affairs minister

Michihiko Kano (1942-2021) Minister of Agriculture

Hikaru Matsunaga (b. 1928) Trade and Industry minister

Mayumi Moriyama (1927-2021) Chief Cabinet secretary

Hajime Ishii (b. 1934)

Both Matsunaga and Ishii died this year, leaving ancient fascist Taro Nakayama as the last one standing.
