Meanwhile Mulayam's reportedly having a massive kidney infection now. Two other indian politicians, Sharad Yadav and Satya Pal Malik have visited the hospital recently to ask about Mulayam's health and his son is also there again.

Indian political heavyweight Sharad Yadav dead at 75. Seemingly a sudden cardiac arrest instead of a decade-long health decline this time.

Prolonged illness and "had been in hospital for a while" apparently.

Interesting, didn't know that. Was on my radar due to his connections to those more talked indian politicians like Mulayam Singh Yadav but I thought he was the least ill of them.

Here's a picture from the 1990s. L-R Sharad Yadav (d. 2023), Mulayam Singh Yadav (d. 2022), Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan (d. 2020). Lalu's the last man standing, only 74 but at this point an overdue death due to his multiple "critical condition" hospitalisations.

arghton, isn't the first one on the left Sharad Yadav who has died today?

Yes, it's Sharad Yadav. There are a lot of Yadavs in Indian politics.

Well, Lalu Prasad Yadav has made some statement on that guy's death. He's still in hospital after over a month and looks very thin. I doubt he'll make it to 2024.

Former Iranian Deputy Minister of Defence Alireza Akbari hanged aged 61. He was allegedly forced to confess to having a part in the murder of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, which led to a spying conviction. He allegedly worked for the British, confessing that a British agent had asked for information about Fakhrizadeh at some point likely none too far from the assassination. The British government deny all accusations. They did not ask someone who was not an agent of not their secret service to not ask a non-Iranian who was definitely not Alireza Akbari about information that did not concern Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

David Onley, who served as the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, the Queen's representative in the province, from 2007 to 2014, has died. He was 72. Onley's career began as a journalist. He was a weather specialist with Citytv from 1984 to 1989. Onley was also an advocate for the disabled. A childhood polio bout necessitated his needed for crutches to get around.

Reported on facebook that the oldest former member of the Finnish parliament and oldest former minister (Minister of Social Affairs and Health 1979-1982) Sinikka Luja-Penttilä has died at 98. Can't find any obituaries on the internet yet but it seems true, as far as I know she'd been in failing health for a while and there's apparently an obituary in the Demokraatti newspaper.

Ancient anti-NATO defence minister Taisto Tähkämaa is now the oldest former Finnish minister and member of parliament, 99 in December and has been in a care home for years (also one of my Electoral DP picks)

Its a very rare type of blood cancer called Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinaemia. He had chemo a couple of years ago and it went into remission but now it’s back. He hasn’t yet announced his retirement at the next election
