Anne McLaughlin is the size of a bouncy castle (but nowhere near as fun) so no surprises there.

One of the (relatively few) SNP MPs I have any time for. Knew her over a decade ago. Good local representative when she first became a MSP: very much someone who could bash opponents into submission with relentless pressure, which is a lot more tolerable when she's doing it on your behalf! No political nous though. Kept pissing off the top brass so the fact they keep getting rid of her and she reappears amuses somewhat.

I'm seeing a developing theme in the current output of Basildon funsters Kunt and the Gang, their latest assault on the singles charts (where their various version of Boris Johnson is a F'king Cunt earned them a #7 hit)

Philippines Chief Presidential Legal Counsel/immortal thing Juan Ponce Enrile to hold a 99th birthday bash in three weeks. From one article:

Enrile has started sending out invitations for his birthday party, which will be held on February 14 at White Space Manila, an events place in Makati.

Does anyone think the new First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford may go the way of Donald Dewer. He doesn't look exactly healthy.

He hasn’t yet but his wife Clare has died suddenly.

Couldn’t wait until Christmas this time…or maybe they’re not convinced Sunak will still be in a job by then.

This definitely did not merit a BBC breaking news notification on my phone early.

They've got a trigger happy intern sending those notifications right now.

Is it you, Crem?

At least it’s actually breaking News rather than some notifications from both the BBC and Sky which are just filler articles.

Arguably, the BBC would be right to put a breaking news notification on the news, as she was the wife of the Welsh FM. Same if Boris' wife, or Sturgeon's husband died, particularly if it was unexpected as it seemed to be in this case. Northern Ireland doesn't have a FM right now, so they don't particularly get to factor into this discussion, but they would if they did.

I think it's all out as far as K&TG are concerned, they'll doubtless have a go at Therese Coffey for being fat in the next few weeks.

A useless fact. The death of Baroness Berners means that there are now just 10 living female hereditary peers (in their own right).

The 21st Lady Saltoun, 92
The 28th Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, 88
The 10th Baroness Howard de Walden, 87
The 11th Baroness Arlington, 83
The 31st Countess of Mar, 82
The 8th Baroness Braye, 81
The Marchioness of Lothian/The 16th Lady Herries of Terregles, 78
The 13th Lady Kinloss, 65
The 9th Lady Balfour of Burleigh, 49
The 29th Baroness Dacre, 39

They've been dwindling in numbers for some years. Rewind back several decades ago and there were many more. Why that was the case I'm not entirely sure, but my educated guess would be that two consecutive world wars wiped out a lot of the men, and with certain peerages the women were able to inherit them.

Following the retirements of Lady Saltoun in 2014, and the Countess of Mar in 2020, there are no female hereditary peers currently sitting in the House of Lords.
