Also mentioned was the absence of Geoffrey Robinson, Labour MP for Coventry North West.

Anyone who has read The Paymaster by Tom Bowers will find it hard to believe that he is still an elected MP.

A politician of the lowest scruples.

Some Khmer Rouge prison leader, Kaing Guek Eav, better known as "Duch", hospitalized with respiratory problems:

Because he confessed, (claims to) regret, and (claims to have) found God.

Trump switches out the energy commission chairman Kevin McIntyre, officially because of a "more serious health setback than cancer" - brain cancer to be precise. That must have been quite the setback...

He was the former mayor of Deadwood.  Seemed worth noting.  Seemed more important in fact.

The president of Gabon, Ali Bongo, has been hospitalized - severe exhaustion or stroke, you decide:

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/10/gabon-president-ali-bongo-hospitalised-saudi-arabia-181029152942267.html

If someone got murdered by him, would it give the "Death by Bongo" bonus in the HPDP?

Also hospitalized: the prime minister of Nepal, KM Sharma:

Thank you :D Theresa is like Madusa - I wouldn't want to ask her to join because I'd be too scared of being turned to stone :o

I really should make a thread for The Big Easy--shit that goes down in New Orleans.  Always something....
Lesson 1: Don't bring your pansy-arse stomach to N'awlins and then eat local fare.  Stick to the elk and lutefisk you are accustomed to.
Lesson 2: Did you really come to the land of voodoo around Halloween and not expect something like this to happen?
Lesson 3: When you least expect the gris gris, expect it.

A former North Dakota state lawmaker died today after contracting a bacterial infection from eating raw oysters while visiting New Orleans.  Fifty-eight-year-old Rae Ann Kelsch died in a New Orleans hospital on October 30, days after contracting the infection.  Kelsch, who served in the North Dakota state House from 1991 to 2012, was in New Orleans to visit her niece and nephew.

As I like to put in The Zen of Scots: when the local suggests you try durian with a sN-word, do not.

msc Sr did, however, as I'm not sure there's any food he wont try at least once. On a related note, Reeves and Mortimer did a sketch about 20 years ago of them running about a shopping centre in gas masks waving durian and passersby fainting from the smell.

When he and my mum were in India, apparently it was custom to give any visitor a plate of jalebis to finish. Neither of them can stand the sight of one today. I love the damn things, v unhealthy and not commonly sold in Glasgow - sugar pretzels dipped in syrup, basically.

jalebi-500x500.jpg

I could also easily to this day finish any plate of burfi quite easily. Mmm Indian sweets. Anyhow, I digress...

msc those look fantastic.  But I spent a few years working with (and thus eating plenty of food and treats from) our good friends from the Middle East.  It looks like something they would have come up with, some drippy sticky sugary mess.

Isn't durian supposed to taste really nice?  I'd love to try it.  I often saw it on sale on my travels, and would have bought one and taken it off to a local park to sample (rather than my hotel room, lol) but they were large, extremely heavy and sold by weight.  Also prickly on the outside so painful to hold!

It's apparently an acquired taste. Chap we lived with in Singapore loved the stuff, but his wife wouldn't let him have it inside their flat!

Many hotels forbid the eating of durian in the lobby.

Like father, like son: Jon Huntsman Jr, former presidential candidate, governor of Utah and US ambassador to China and Russia, has been diagnosed with cancer:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/jon-huntsman-ambassador-to-russia-reveals-cancer-diagnosis

He says it's stage 1 melanoma, but they found two spots, one behind his ear, and one on his thigh.
