That is ominous as she is usually very active in the house.

Who are the SNP MPs  ill and on leave out of interest?

Amy Callaghan is one. Very ill. Had a nasty stroke and cancer too. Will presumably retire at the next election. Only about 30 too.

Amy Callaghan, Allan Dorans and John Nicolson. Tory MP Mark Logan has also been granted a proxy vote  until January as a result of his accident last month.  https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/23100693.mark-logan-mp-doctors-nurses-looking-incredible/

I'm not surprised at Callaghan as she campaigned for this as I recall.Dorrans I knew had a fall but not that he was still ill and Nicolson is quite a surprise as he has been on TV recently I seem to recall

Dorrans had a really bad case of covid and nearly died. It's taking a while for his health to get back to normal.

Callaghan as I said has had several health setbacks.

No idea on Nicolson. He was still in the commons last week.

John Nicolson has MS. I don’t know if that is public knowledge.

Ancient Finnish political leader Ele Alenius might or might not make an appearance at the yearly meeting of incumbent Left Alliance parliament members and former Left Alliance and SKDL parliament members this week (it has been exactly one year since the last time), but as he failed to appear at his 97th birthday celebration in June I doubt he will. Sad to see him decline, truly a great politician and human, respected by nearly all current politicians beyond party lines (arguably) unlike any other living Finnish politician.

SKDL's former Members of Parliament  Mikko Ekorre (1941) and Veikko Saarto (1934) were already too ill to attend it the last time it was held, a year ago.

Ele Alenius has died.

Excluding Lotta Svärd members, as far as I know only two Members of the Finnish Parliament who fought in WWII remain:

Taisto Tähkämaa: 98 next month. Fought in the Battle of Tali–Ihantala, largest battle in the history of the Nordic countries. Ancient anti-NATO Defence Minister, not in the best health and now in a nursing home, it's been a while since his last public appearance. Picture from 2004.

Heikki Hasu: 96, most known for being a Oslo 1952 olympic gold medalist 4 × 10 kilometre relay. Was in perfect health a few years ago. Picture from 2019.

Three months ago there were 5.

Kalibek Kamalov, longtime leader of the Karakalpak Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, in May. Doesn't look bad for 96 and apparently he's still quite sharp:

He lives in Uzbekistan judging on the flag on the guy next to him. Uzbekistan also has Rafiq Nishonov, a much more powerful old guy who was the leader of the Uzbek SSR before the late Islam Karimov. Nishonov will be 97 in January and as far as I know hasn't been anywhere in over a year. Ancient Tajik SSR leader Nizoramo Zaripova will be 99 next month.

Nizoramo Zaripova, now 99, talking at an event this week, image of Tajikistan's dictator Emomali Rahmon above:

Zaripova, Rafiq Nishonov and Kamalov amaze me. Impressive longevity in some Soviet-era politicians

Some of these went on to have ministerial careers such as Richard Caborn and other are already on the radar like Ian Paisley but assembling a DDP team from this lot would be a leap of faith as many will be tocuh and go for an Obit. However if you have spies in the local press then this could be a good source of information.

The 1979 elections were held on the First past the post principal with constituencys being roughly approximated to counties it is only in later elections that we get the regional approach and a move to the D'Hondt system.

Wonder how many of @Bibliogryphon's list of survivors remain alive.

This would always be big news, but it becomes more dramatic with the narrow majority in the house. Both the current Democratic one and the future Republican one starting next year.

Very true, imagine if the Dems had won the House by a seat or so.

William Deane made a rare appearance two months ago:

williamdeane.thumb.png.fbb610f3fa9b1dff7700535925ff7e53.png

Looks fine for nearly 92. Doing much better than Hardie Boys and Hayden, and for example Manuella. Bolger and Hollingworth seem to be doing fine for 87. Latasi seems to be in failing health.

Sokomanu and Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi have both made appearances this month, both seem very great for their ages, especially Sokomanu. Here's Efi this month:

Efi.png.b602159e1b3058745eb08af64fd3d77c.png

His wife, former First Lady of Samoa Masiofo Filifilia Imo Tamasese seems frail.
