36. Sidney Poitier

Recommended Posts

Sidney turned 89 yesterday so I figured I'll make a thread, it's about time I think (if there is one already, be free to close this one because i can't find his name anywhere).

:)

So judged by his age I think he'll go like Lauren Bacall (stroke, heart attack).

The "Guess Whose Not Coming to Dinner" pun has been officially granted to the Derby Dead Pool organisation by the UN...so back off DeathList :shoot:

He won the BAFTA Fellowship last weekend but wasn't there to collect it due to ill health. They showed him receiving it on the big screen though, from Jamie Foxx, alongside his daughter (also called Sydney). He looked....very old. But he was standing up for the speech and didn't look that bad all things considered. Certainly not as though he was in severe 'ill health'. But time is clearly catching up with him, not got too many more years to go.

Thank gawd for that!!

Good to see a black actor finally being recognised for their contribution to the Deadpool industry.

DL is leading the way in demonstrating its non racist credentials.

Can we not have a thread titled 'Is it coz I is Black?' where we can discuss the famous and infamous 'non white' celebrities?? :D

Isn't that the same as saying: we're equal opportunity ghouls?

Nah, better not. It might lead to awkward questions.

Aye, best not cause any upset. AFAIK, they are currently casting new 'oscars' at the foundry with afro haircuts to demonstrate, beyond all doubt, that the Academy is very racially inclusive. :D

Aye, but Cher's in worse shape if you believe those NE types.

They have papers to sell, right. They've never printed a headline that says Major Celeb Happy and Healthy!

If you saw that headline you would be reading Hello magazine.

Cher's mom is still alive I think and she's 80 something....that means Cher will see the 90's by my "vision", unless she goes skiing

I never thought Sid will live past 86, I just had that feeling, but here he is with 89

His performance as Mr Tibbs is voted as the best film performance by a black actor according to a public poll by the guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/oct/20/sidney-poitier-tibbs-best-performance-by-black-actor-angela-bassett

No room for Eddie Murphy in Trading Places? Disgraceful. Everyone in that movie was just superb.
