Only Famous For Being Ill And Dying

Recommended Posts

This just makes me sad. A 5 year old terminally ill boy dies in Santa arms, his last Christmas wish: http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/terminally-ill-boy-5-dies-in-the-arms-of-santa-claus-w455212

Must have been a real downer for everybody else in the queue.

I picked Craig Lyons who made the news because he sued Thomas Cook for a missed 'last holiday' and won.

Now he makes global news again, because his wife shaves her head for him... in support...

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/bride-shaves-head-on-wedding-day-in-tribute-to-terminally-ill-husband/

I guess they're milking it for all it's worth...

Shameless pick Craig Lyons now has a documentary out:

He also gets visits from Liverpool player Lucas Leiva:

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-midfielder-lucas-leiva-leaves-11877085

Dead per this tweet. No obits yet, qualifying or otherwise. (though it's only been a day, so there'll probably be some local press coverage in due time)

He gave a good fight, indeed. He lasted far longer than one could have expected.

Now I'm waiting for an article on the phenomenon of cancer celebrities ("2016, the year of terminal illness fame"), mentioning Lyons, Angela Sykes, Jack Wells, Sarah Swindells, Helen Hutchinson, and Mark Nurthen, to give me the win in the main team competition.

More realistically, Lisa Brown most likely dies in the next few days, giving Shameless the record of most non-obiting people (I think I'm tied, right now?).

I think the theme Team competition will be much harder next time and the typical Shameless picks will increase in number (I see, Spade is looking for a joker among them).

At the same time, I don't see the same "quality" and quantity as last year. I think I'll have to move the G. Monty Brinsons of 2017 into Shameless. I think I have a few names to spare.

Plus, cancer celebrities apparently don't obit post-April for DDP purposes. I think one has to get a little lucky in picking the right names. I would guess a team like Shameless still couldn't win it all. I missed some names though, I didn't know about Hassan

Asif and DDT's corresponding pick. I had Jade Patemam and Sonny Lang on my mind. I could have moved Linda Horan, Rowena Kincaid and Monty Brinson into Shameless. That would have made it close - but those are too many ifs.

I wonder what it means.....

Here's a Daily Mail article from march about "cancer mum" Indira Jayasuriya rejecting chemo so that her baby can live:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3503145/Mother-diagnosed-terminal-cancer-28-weeks-pregnant-refuses-early-C-section-treat-disease.html

She then died in November and it turns out that she was the daughter of a former minister of Sri Lanka, who is now Speaker of the Parliament:

http://dailynews.lk/2016/12/14/local/101940

I wonder why the Daily Mail didn't tell.

Shameless pick Steven Monks is ... probably.... dead:

There's a comment by a John Ogden (11 days old, as of today), mentioning his passing.

Don't do that to me; I practically shot my load at the thought of an obitable classical pianist being so old. Only to discover John Ogdon (different spelling) left the stage in 1989

Julia Watson, inspirational cancer mum, writer of her own blog, and author of "Breakfast, school run, chemo" dead with qualifying obit:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4052044/Mother-four-dies-inspiring-thousands-raw-honest-blog-battle-terminal-bowel-cancer.html

I think she was nr. 21 or 22 for Shameless 2016. I would never have thought that one from the 2016 bench could still obit that late.

Nina Cusick

A 34 yo woman who was hoping to live long enough to see her 21 month old son celebrate Christmas is dead. Had an article in the sun and mirror a few weeks ago so I imagine would have been picked by a few of the more advantageous players had she survived until Jan 1.

There surely must be some way of disqualifying this sort of pick. It's ruining the game, and brings deadpooling into disrepute imo.

As i said elsewhere there is a thin line and this crosses it.

If anybody is wondering about how Lisa Magill is doing, she hasn't blogged since December 22nd. She had always blogged 1-2 times a week, so this is a bad sign.

Edit: Whoops. Should have checked her Facebook before making this post. She said she's out of the hospital and is working on a blog right now.

Yeah, Magill's blog is here. Timer's definitely on here, did find some gallows humour in comments on her recent Facebook posts saying "great news that you're leaving hospital to come home!" as if leaving hospital to come home is actually good news for someone with final stage cancer.

Bad News. I've been admitted to the Marsden a few days ago and I've been told there's nothing more they can do regarding my treatment and I'm going to die soon. I'd like to thank everybody especially my family, friends, The Royal Marsden Hospital and Georgie for their love and support. I'd really love to raise £100,000 for Cancer Research UK

While I'm happy that I'm about to get my first hit, I'm also kind of sad as well. It's a shame someone like him is going to die at such a young age.

To be brutally honest he's done brilliantly well to get this far. Two years this month, he was given 18 months as the upper most limit, and nearly everyone in the first clinic with the same illness spread were dead within six months tops.

Mark Sims looks pretty terrible in this video tweet. Don't think he has long to live: https://twitter.com/drmarksims/status/818091527612362752

Wont see the Rumble, imo.

5 Deathrace teams have him in play - just thought I'd mention that
