My pick Shalom Ouanounou died two days ago:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/shalom-ouanounou-death-1.4569257

Well, it solves one of my problems in that I kind of feared that the BBC would report the court decision to turn off his life support, but then not report his death. Now there might be a news report on the similar situation of Taquisha McKitty, which then mentions that Shalom Ouanounou has already died...so let's see...

Edit: Also of interest, the Ouanounou case will actually go on...

Editedit: If the case actually makes it to the Canadian Supreme Court, as the article suggests, then I think a QO is more likely than not (as a symbol of "religious freedom"). But then how long is that going to take...

Atlanta woman who is bedridden with multiple myeloma is denied marriage license so she can marry the father of her four children.  The reason: She needs to come get the license in person.  This will make news when she dies, esp if unwed.

So three days late, my DDP pick and Shameless type Larissa Podermanski launches a youtube 'how i'm doing' video, wherein she says her latest dr visit shows no progression in her tumours, but she is experiencing some internal 'discomfort' and the drs don't know what it is at this point.  Her next checkup in 6-12 weeks.  Looks like she's going to have to come through for me in the latter months of the year.  I knew she saw the dr and having not heard anything I had figured the worst.  Frankly, good for her on a more positive result.

Jonathan Pitre, the 17-year-old dubbed 'Butterfly Boy' for his debilitating battle with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and about whom ESPN did an E:60 episode on his condition, has died of complications of septic shock:

ESPN video:

His story was long reported on in Ottawa, where Pitre was from, and his death will likely hit the community quite hard.

Seems we all missed this, but she died about a week ago now, and nobody noticed for some reason...

Not gonna print the name cos it's damn near nailed on drive by trouble but...

This case has moved on since the online report here because Fed Ex failed to deliver a parcel containing vital medical materials. So, an unfolding tragedy might have stepped up to news worthy.

There’s an obit in our local paper for her because she lives just down the road, and that’s the first time I’d heard of her. Stories like this used to elicit a sliver of sympathy but there are so many ‘ooo look at me I’m dying’ that I find it hard to give a shit any more.

I started thinking that a few months ago and wondered if I was being wicked coming to that conclusion.Seems just so many are around.

This week's update: Nurse told Larissa to plan for end-of-life discusssions.   "My liver and stomach are very enlarged right now, and based on my scans and blood count numbers, I’m in liver failure.  I have to pray and hope this chemo can shrink or zap some of the nasty liver cancer."   She's also talking bucket list.  Hope she can enjoy a few days this summer somehow.  Problem with picking Shameless types is they are real people, like me.  I can see myself posting some hopeless blog and things going south and 20% of the blog's web traffic is some assholes in a death pool.  Reality sucks sometimes.

Move to 'political' thread if you like but re: Alfie, no court should tell a parent how to medically TREAT their child.  This isn't a statement re: NON-treatment like goddamn anti-vaxers etc, where the parents are choosing  NOT to treat the child.  But in this case the court has zero interest greater than the parents.  They turned a human being into a chattel.  *descends soap box*
